Director Ali Abbas Zafar has come together with Zee Studios India for a new-age remake of 1987 classic film Mr India. Ranveer Singh will be essaying the lead role in the film.
The cult-favourite film Mr India from 1987 continues to win hearts even today. Precisely why director Ali Abbas Zafar has acquired the rights of the film along with Zee Studios to create an epic trilogy on Mr India. According to reports, 2020 Mr India is not the official remake or sequel of the 1987 film but it is a re-imagining of the same.
The story will take cues from the most celebrated actors from the iconic film like Mogambo (played by Amrish Puri), Seema Sohni (played by Sri Devi) and Arun Verma (played by Anil Kapoor). The new Mr India will be set in the contemporary world with Ranveer Singh playing the titular role of Mr India. Ranveer will be stepping into the big shoes of Anil Kapoor to play the contemporary Mr India written by Ali Abbas Zafar. The filmmaker is currently busy creating a superhero universe as he pens down the script for the film that is due to go on floors in early 2021. ‘It is a huge responsibility to carry forward an iconic character that has been loved by Indians for so many years,’ he added.
Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios, confirmed: “We are excited to have Ali on board for ‘Mr. India’. This not a part 2 or a remake of the older film as recently reported in some sections of the media, but a reimagining of the iconic classic.” The film made 30 years ago continues to rule the science fiction directorial films in India. Back in the day, It started the trend of sci-fi films in Bollywood industry. The film was directed by Shekhar Kapur.
Although no other cast member has been finalized, we are quite excited to see Ranveer Singh play Arun Verma in Mr India 2. Besides, it will be interesting to see who finally ends up becoming Ranveer’s Mogambo.
