Alia Bhatt’s sister Shaheen opens up about suicide attempt

Sisters Alia and Shaheen Bhatt attended The Tara Sharma Show where Shaheen talked about her thoughts moments before attempting suicide. She said, “I can’t look out of the window for one more second and feel this empty.”

Shaheen Bhatt, daughter of talented filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and elder sister of ‘Highway’ actress Alia Bhatt has been dealing with depression since her early childhood days. Shaheen has never been the one to hide her vulnerability when it comes to taking up subjects like depression, anxiety and suicide. She’s even authored the ‘I Have Never Been (Un)Happier’ in which she puts forth her true struggles with depression.

A recently released 30-second promo of The Tara Sharma has Shaheen Bhatt taking about her thoughts right before she attempted suicide. When Tara asks Shaheen, “What were you thinking when you tried to end your life?” Shaheen replied with a heavy heart saying that she wasn’t thinking. She just wanted to end her life because she couldn’t look out of the window for one more second and feel so empty.

Mom Soni Razdan and sister Alia Bhatt also shared their two cents of depression. Soni Razdan said that parents should look for signs of depression in children from early on. Alia also took the opportunity to break the myth surrounding depression. She said the medical illness should be treated like just any other medical problem. Sister Alia Bhatt remained calm as she saw mother-daughter letting it all out on the talk show. The same Alia Bhatt had broken down into tears at Shaheen’s book launch event as Shaheen talked about her battle with depression.

After struggling with depression for a large part of her life, Shaheen is in a happy place now. She lives with sister Alia Bhatt in their girl’s pad in Mumbai where the two are often spotted spending time together. Shaheen loves her father and celebrated film director Mahesh Bhatt as she leaves no chance to express her love for him on social media.
