Ayushmann Khurrana wishes same-sex marriages get legal in the country

Ayushmann Khurrana had a serious slip of the tongue during media interaction as he said that ‘same-sex marriages were legal in India’. Later, he took to Twitter to share an apology regarding the wrong statement.

The ‘Shubh Mangal Savdhaan’ actor Ayushmann Khurrana found himself in an icky situation after he said ‘same sex marriages were legal in India. During a media interaction session, Ayushmann Khurrana said he was proud to be the supporter of LGBTQ Community in India. He mistakenly added that he was even happier that the government had ‘legalised same-sex marriages’ in India. The Netizens noticed the tiny glitch as they began trolling him left, right and center. The ‘Article 15’ actor was condemned for his false statement.

The ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhaan’ actor took to Twitter to share an apology as he called it a ‘genuine slip of the tongue’. In his tweet, he also mentioned how he wished that same-sex marriage were legal in India already. Ayushmann added a photo of him holding 2 gigantic flags – One of them being the Tiranga and the other one being the rainbow flag, a symbol of the LGBTQ community.

According to the law, the government only lifted the criminal ban on homosexuality in India. However, same-sex marriages still remain illegal as per the law. Ayushmann Khurrana will be seen romancing Jitendra Kumar in his upcoming film ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhaan’. The film is based on the life of a same-sex couple who find it hard to gain acceptance as a gay couple in India. The country is still plagued by the taboo surrounding same-sex relationships. This is a light-hearted, progressive and fun take of the sensitive issue that has never been taken up by any director in India.

Ayushmann and Jitendra will be joined by Neena Gupta, Manurishi Chadda, Maanvi Gagroo and Gajraj Rao in Hitesh Kewalaya’s ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Savadhaan’. The film produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series is the second edition of 2017 critically acclaimed film ‘Shubh Mangal Savdhaan’. The previous edition dealt with the problem of erectile dysfunction faced by a newly-wed couple (Ayushmann Khurrana & Bhumi Pednekar). The film went on to perform well at the Box Office also managed t impress the critics.
