Kesari is the 5th movie after Uri The Surgical Strike, Gully Boy, Total Dhamaal, Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi to join 100 crore club in 2019.
Kesari is Akshay Kumar’s 10th movie to join 100 crore club. The other nine are Housefull 2, Holiday, Rowdy Rathore, Airlift, Rustom, Housefull 3, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2 and Gold. It is also Akshay Kumar fastest 100 crores grosser beating Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. TEPK took 8 days to cross 100 crore mark.
Kesari: Box Office Journey
Kesari had a pretty good opening at the box office as it earned 21.06 crores despite the loss of the morning and noon shows. However, the movie failed to record big growth over the first weekend. With the collection of 78.07 crores, it becomes the highest opening weekend grosser of 2019.
On Monday, the movie saw a huge drop and earned only 8.25 crores. Now, on weekdays, the movie is witnessing a continuous drop.
Though Kesari has joined 100 crore club in just 7 days, there is no denying that it has underperformed at the box office. The movie failed to post expected numbers in the extended first weekend. Some people believe that the clash with IPL has affected Kesari box office collection.
The total budget (promotion and advertising cost) of Kesari is 100 crores. It needs to earn 130 crores to be declared a box office hit.
It remains to be seen, how many days will it take to achieve this number. I am expecting the movie to drop further in the second weekend as there will be a reduction in the screen count.
While 130 crore is certainly achievable, it remains to be seen if the movie can still cross 150 crore mark. The expectations were huge from Kesari. Most of the trade experts were calling it Akshay Kumar’s first 200 crore movie. However, it seems that Akshay has to wait for more for his first 200 crores grosser.
