Chhapaak Box Office Collection Day 1: Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak starts well according to the screens count.
Released amidst a lot of controversies, Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak decent start at the domestic box office. Released on 1700 screens in India, the film registered 30% occupancy on its first day. The performance was better in high-end multiplex cities like Delhi, NCR and Bangalore.
Based on the story of Acid Attack Survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, the film has received unanimously positive reviews. Critics are going gaga over the film. Initial word of mouth is also positive. However, the problem for Chhapaak is that the subject is multiplex oriented. The film has no chance to score in mass centres.
Comparing to other women-centric films, the first day collection of Chhapaak is less than The Dirty Picture, Raazi, Dear Zindagi, Manikarnika and Heroine. However, it is higher than films like Saand Ki Aaankh, Piku, Akira and Naam Shabana.
Positive reviews and word of mouth ensure that the film will see good growth in the collection on 2nd and 3rd day. However, there is strong competition in the form of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Ajay Devgn starrer historical war drama film is off to a very good opening. It has overshadowed Chhapaak in almost all circuits on the first day.
#Chhapaak is ordinary on Day 1… Collects well at select high-end multiplexes… Biz at Tier-2 and 3 cities and also mass circuits is way below the mark… Growth on Day 2 and 3 crucial for a respectable weekend total… Fri ₹ 4.77 cr. #India biz.
