The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has released the guidelines for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwD) candidates registered for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2023. Candidates with disabilities can access the instructions at gate.iitk.ac.in.
Guidelines For GATE 2023 For PwD
Candidates with benchmark disabilities of more than 40% and physical limitations in writing the exam will be allowed a scribe, according to IIT Kanpur guidelines. In case other candidates in this category wish to avail themselves of this facility, they must submit a certificate in accordance with Appendix-A in the GATE 2023 information brochure.
Persons who fall under the categories of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), and cerebral palsy may request a scribe only in advance.
A scribe will also be made available to the candidates who have dyslexia. A valid dyslexia certificate must be presented to the authorities if a dyslexic individual wants to benefit from these services.
All PWD or dyslexic applicants who have trouble writing fast and do not want to use a scribe facility may be given an additional hour to complete their exam.
Regulations For Visually Impaired
While taking the GATE 2023 exam, students who are blind or visually impaired must speak with a GATE institute representative about receiving a “magnified question paper.” The authorities have made it clear to the candidates that any requests for scribes made on the day of the exam would not be granted.
The official PwD regulations state that scribes must have completed senior secondary education or higher, but they also stipulate that they should not possess a higher level of education than that needed to pass the GATE exam. If the applicant brings a scribe, the scribe’s qualification must be one stop lower than the applicant’s.
