The Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi was established in 1919 and is given the status of an Institute of National Importance. It is a public technical university and was earlier known as the Banaras Engineering College, which was changed into IT BHU in 1968 and finally to IIT (BHU) in 2012.

NIRF ranked the institute 15th in 2023 for its engineering course. The institute consists of 17 academic units, including 14 departments and 3 interdisciplinary schools, providing 64 courses at the UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels. The university is accredited “A” by NAAC and is affiliated with UGC, AICTE, and COA.

Entrance Exam 

Admission to IIT BHU is done only through a national-level entrance exam, followed by counselling in the case of B.Tech. and M.Tech. The names of the courses along with the entrance exam accpeted at IIT BHU are given below:

Cut-off 

For B.Tech. the cutoff is declared by JoSAA after the conclusion of JEE Advanced and counselling. M.Tech. seats are allocated by COAP. The student must hold a high rank in JEE Advanced to make sure of their selection in the course of their choice.

The cutoff depends mainly on the rank of the student, the number of applicants for the course, the availability of seats, the difficulty level of the paper, etc. Candidates should also have a minimum percentage prescribed by the institute in the 12th or equivalent exam or UG exam.

How to Apply for IIT BHU Varanasi?

Admission to IITs for the B.Tech. course is done through JOSAA. A candidate has to register and qualify the JEE Mains and JEE Advance with a rank to be able to get admission to IIT BHU. Here are details on how to apply to the B.Tech course of your choice at IIT BHU:
