The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, popularly known as IIT Guwahati, was established in 1994 as a public technical university by the Government of India. IIT Guwahati is the sixth IIT and has been given the status of an “Institute of National Importance”. The college is approved by UGC and accredited with an “A+” grade by NAAC.

The college consists of 11 departments, four interdisciplinary schools, and five centres. It offers more than 50 courses at the UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels in engineering, science, architecture, management, and the humanities. NIRF has ranked IITG 7th and 9th under the ‘Engineering’ and ‘Overall’ categories, respectively, for 2023.

B.Tech. is the flagship course at IIT Guwahati. Admission to IITG is purely based on the ranks and marks obtained in national-level examinations. The highest package for 2023 stood at INR 2.40 CPA. Some of the top recruiters were Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Schlumberger, Piramal, TVS R&D, GAIL, etc.

IIT Guwahati Admission 2023 

The college offers B.Tech. and B.Des. at the undergraduate level, M.A., M.S., M.Sc., M.Tech., M.Des., and M.B.A. at the postgraduate level and doctoral programmes. Entrance Exam

A student has to qualify the national-level exam for admission to the course of their choice. Given below are the names of the courses and the exam you need to qualify for IITG.

• B.Tech : JEE Mains + JEE Advanced + JOSAA Counselling
• B.Des: UCEED + Counselling
• MBA/PGDM: CAT + Personal Interview + Work Experience + Academic Merit.
• M.Tech: GATE + COAP Counselling
• M.Des: CEED + Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, IITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED score) + Interview and Portfolio.
• M.Sc: IIT-JAM + CCMN counselling
• M.A: Written Test + Interview/Counseling conducted by IIT Guwahati 
• PhD:  GATE/ NET/ CEED/ INSPIRE

Cut-off

JoSAA announces the B.Tech. cutoff following the conclusion of JEE Advanced and counselling. The student has to hold an All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Advanced. IITG releases the cutoff for the entrance exams for PG courses. The cutoff is subject to the number of applicants, availability of seats, difficulty level of the paper, etc. In addition, a candidate is also required to possess a minimum percentage or marks in the 12th or equivalent exam, or UG exam. Candidates can refer to the cutoffs of 2022 and 2023.

IIT Guwahati Ranking & Accreditation

IITG is among the top 10 best engineering colleges in India. In 2023, NIRF ranked the college 7th among engineering colleges and overall 9th in India. The QS World University Rankings of 2023 have ranked it 384th globally and 124th in Asia. The university is accredited by NAAC and recognised by the UGC.

How to Apply for IIT Guwahati 2023

Admission to B.Tech courses at IITG is done on the basis of JEE Advance and JOSAA counselling. Candidates interested in admission to IIT Guwahati can refer below to understand the process of registering for the B.Tech courses of their choice:

• You need to register and appear for the JEE Mains examination and achieve the required cut-off for JEE Advanced.
• Once you are eligible, fill in the application form for JEE Advance by logging in using your JEE Mains application number and password.
• Fill in the details that are left and pay the application fees for JEE Advanced.
• You are required to achieve the All India Rank (AIR) to be able to move on to the next round.
• The next round is JOSAA, a counselling process for seat allotment in the IIT according to rank.
• For JOSAA registration, enter your JEE Main application number and Main/Advanced password.
• You are now required to check all of the details and update the password.
• On completion of registration, you have to fill out the name of the institute, IIT Guwahati, and the course in which you wish to be admitted.
• If you have the required rank or cutoff for IITG, you will be admitted to the course of your choice.
• Now you are required to pay the admission fees to lock in your seat.

IIT Guwahati Placement

The placement drive for the year 2023 in IITG has not ended. Phase 1 of the campus placement drive 2023 ended with a total of 919 offers, out of which 168 were international offers. The highest package offered by an international company is INR 2.4 CPA, and the highest package offered by a domestic company is 1.1 CPA.

The PPOs issued for 2023 were 218, and the average package offered in BTech CSE placements was INR 41 LPA.
