IIT Kharagpur: The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, also known as IIT-KGP, was established in 1951 as the Public Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, West Bengal, by the Government of India. IIT-KGP is a deemed university under Section 3 of UGC Act 1 and is the first IIT to be acknowledged as an Institute of National Importance. IIT-KGP received the status of Institute of Eminence,” awarded in 2019 by the Government of India, and is accredited with a grade of ‘A+.’

IIT Kharagpur offers 183 courses at the UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels in engineering, science, management, law, etc. IIT-KGP is ranked 6th in the overall category by NIRF in 2022, and all the institute’s courses are approved by UGC and AICTE.

Entrance Exam 

IIT Kharagpur admissions to B.Tech and B.Arch courses are based on the performance of the candidate in JEE Advanced and AAT for B.Arch which is followed by JoSAA counselling. Admission to PG courses such as M.E, MBA, and M.Sc is done through various national-level exams like GATE, CAT, IIT JAM, etc.

Cut-off 

JoSAA releases the opening and closing ranks of JEE Advanced for each course and category for IIT Kharagpur in online mode. How to Apply for IITKGP 2023?

Admission to IIT Kharagpur for B.Tech. and B.Arch. courses are carried out by the national-level test IIT-JEE, followed by JOSAA counselling. Candidates interested in admission to IIT Kharagpur can refer below to understand the process of registering for the B.Tech. and B.Arch. courses of their choice:

• You are required to appear for the JEE Mains examination and achieve the required cut-off for JEE Advance.
• Once you are eligible, fill in the application form for JEE Advance by logging in using your JEE Mains application number and password.
• Fill in all the required details that are left and upload the documents.
• Pay the application fees for JEE Advanced and download the registration receipt.
• If you are applying for  B.Arch., you must fill out an additional form, the AAT.
• You need to achieve the All India Rank (AIR) to be able to move on to the next round.
• The next round is JOSAA, a counselling process for seat allotment in the IIT according to rank.
• If you qualify for the rank or cutoff set by IIT KGP, then you have to pay the admission fees for the course of your choice.

IIT Kharagpur Scholarship 2023

IITKGP provides various scholarship plans for students belonging to financially weaker sections. The scholarships offered by the university are mentioned below.

1. Scholarships offered by the IIT-Kharagpur are based on merit-cum-means for tuition fee waivers.
2. Scholarships offered by Central Government Ministries or Organisations: NHFDC, Indira Gandhi Scholarship, KVPY, NEC Scholarships, etc.
3. Scholarships offered by state governments or union territories are provided on merit cum means to the student belonging to that state or union territory and falling under a specific category.
4. Scholarships are offered by public-sector units and government undertakings.
5. Scholarships offered by reputed private companies or foundation organisations and foreign companies or agencies are based on the performance of the student in any semester. 
6. Endowment Scholarships.

IIT Kharagpur Placement

As per the placement record for 2023, the university has recorded the participation of 300 companies. A total of 1600 offers were made, out of which 45 were international offers. The highest package stood at INR 2.64 CPA, while the median package was INR 18.75 LPA. As per reports, there were a total of 48 offers ranging from INR 50 LPA to INR 2.64 CPA. The major recruiters were IBM, Puma, Capgemini, Deloitte, EY, ICICI Bank, Cognizant, Aditya Birla Group, Lenovo, Excel etc.
