Jadavpur University, established in 1905, is a public state university in Jadavpur, Kolkata, West Bengal. The university was earlier known as Bengal Technical University and was renamed Jadavpur University. It is ranked 10th for engineering and 4th at the university level by NIRF 2023.

The university offers more than 130 courses at the UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels in 36 departments in the fields of arts, science, engineering, and technology. The courses at the university are approved by AICTE, UGC, AIU, and ACU and accredited by NAAC with a grade of “A.”

Entrance Exam 

The university accepts various entrance exams like JEE Mains, WBJEE, and GATE for admission into engineering and technology courses and WBCHSE, ATMA, CAT, GPAT, and WB JECA for some other courses. Admission to the art faculty is done through the university entrance test and the merit of the last exam. The university also provides for direct admission based on academic merit.

Cut-off 

The university releases the minimum marks or cutoff required by a candidate in any entrance exam for admission on its official website. The cutoff for all courses is decided after taking into account the number of applicants, availability of seats, difficulty level of the paper, etc. A candidate must also possess a required percentage in the 12th or equivalent exam or UG exam. JU Kolkata is one of the most prestigious universities in West Bengal and is accredited by NAAC as “A.” The NIRF 2023 ranked it 4th for universities, 13th overall, and 10th in engineering. It is also ranked 14th out of 30 colleges in India by the IIRF in 2023. The ‘QS World University Ranking 2023’ has ranked the university at 701–750 in the world and 182 in Asia.

It is ranked 1001–1200 globally and 251–300 in Asia by the Times Higher Education World University. The university is approved and recognised by NCTE, COA, AICTE, UGC, and AIU. The university is also affiliated with the JD Birla Institute and the Institute of Business Management.

Jadavpur University Infrastructure

The University has two campuses: the Jadavpur main campus and the Saltlake campus. The main campus covers an area of 96.5 acres. The infrastructure of the university consists of a central library, including a digital and departmental library and ramps for specially-abled students, and a daycare centre for the children of the staff members.

Jadavpur University Scholarship 2023

The university’s scholarships are aimed at providing financial aid to deserving students so that they can focus and continue their studies without worrying about fees. The scholarship is given to students who satisfy particular eligibility criteria.

Jadavpur University Placement

The campus placement drive for 2023 is ongoing. The placement rate for the year 2022 was 84%, with 85% for B.Tech. and 71% for M.Tech. The number of companies that visited the campus was more than 100. The highest package stood at INR 1.8 CPA offered by Facebook, while the second and third highest was INR 1.4 CPA offered by Google and INR 1.1 CPA offered by Amazon, respectively.

In the engineering placement programme in 2022, a total of 50 students were offered a package of INR 40 LPA. The median salary for B.Tech. stood at INR 10 LPA and for M.Tech. at INR 9.60 LPA.
