NIT Srinagar: National Institute of Technology Srinagar or NIT Srinagar or NITSRI is one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is a public technical university established in 1960 by the Government of India.

The institute consists of 12 academic departments and 5 centres that provide courses in various disciplines at the UG, PG, and PhD levels. NIRF has ranked the university’s 82nd for engineering in 2023. NIT Srinagar has received the recognition of UGC and AICTE approval.

The institute offers B.Tech. course as its flagship course at the UG level. Admission to the B.Tech course is based on the national-level exam JEE Mains score followed by JoSAA counselling. The highest package for 2023 stood at INR 36.5 LPA offered to a B.Tech student from Computer Science and Engineering branch.

NIT Srinagar provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in the fields of engineering, management, applied sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The institute offers admission to all courses through entrance exams. Students from foreign countries can register through DASA for B.Tech. courses. Entrance Exam 

NIT Srinagar accepts various national-level entrance exams like JEE Main, JAM, GATE, and CAT/MAT, followed by counselling. The institute conducts the GD and PI rounds for MBA and PhD programs. The courses available at NIT Srinagar and the exam you need to qualify for are as follows:

• B.E./B.Tech – JEE Mains + JOSAA Counseling.
• M.E./M.Tech – GATE + COAP Counseling.
• M.Sc – IIT-JAM+CCMN Counseling.
• M.B.A. – CAT/MAT/CMAT.
• Ph.D. – GATE/ UGC NET.

Cut-off 

The exam-conducting authorities release the cutoff in the form of opening and closing ranks for the respective courses. JoSAA releases the B.Tech. cutoff on the basis of the JEE Mains result. CCMN and COAP are the authorities that release the cutoffs for M.Sc. and M.Tech. These cutoffs depend on factors like the rank of the student, the availability of seats, the number of applicants for the course, etc.

The campus is on the western bank of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and covers an area of 63 acres. The Srinagar Railway Station is at a distance of 13 km from the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar. Srinagar International Airport is 23 km away from the institute. Hazratbal Upper Bus Terminal 1 is the nearest bus stop and is 400 m away from the campus.

The NITSRI campus has state-of-the-art infrastructure and amenities for its students and faculty members. How to Apply for NIT Srinagar 2023 

A student can refer below to get a better understanding of the admission process for the B.Tech course at NITSRI through JoSAA based on the ranks of JEE Mains:

• The first step is to register for JEE Mains, you can visit the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, to register.
• The second step is to appear for the JEE Mains and qualify with good ranks to secure your seat in the NIT of your choice.
• Now you are to register for the JoSAA counselling and fill in your choices.
• You need to register using your JEE Mains application number and password.
• You can fill in any incomplete details, upload the necessary documents, like the JEE Mains scorecard, and submit them.
• On the new page, fill in the institutes according to your choice from the given list, along with the preferred specialization.
• On meeting the required cutoff in any round of seat allotment, you will have to pay a fee to freeze in the seat in the discipline of your choice.
• A student has to appear for document verification and pay the remaining fees for final confirmation.

Application Fees

The application fee is a payment for registration in JEE Mains and is non-refundable and compulsory in nature. The application fees are payable online using the given options: credit card, debit card, net banking, Paytm, or UPI.

NIT Srinagar Scholarship 2023    

Scholarships From central, state, private, and PSU authorities are available at NITSRI for students of different courses. These scholarships are based on certain eligibility criteria like outstanding achievement in the entrance exam or any semester, code of conduct, or belonging to the economically weaker sections of society. A student may receive a fee waiver, concession, pocket allowance, or both as a scholarship. A student can visit the national scholarship portal site for scholarships available at NIT Patna. • National Means Cum Merit Scholarship.

NIT Srinagar Placement 2023

The institute has released a placement brochure for the year 2022-23. The campus placement drive 2023 reported a placement percentage of 108.38%, and the highest package stood at INR 36.5 LPA. All the B.Tech courses recorded a placement rate of over 100%, except civil engineering. The average package for Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Technology stood at INR 13.8 LPA and INR 11.6 LPA, respectively.

The highest median package was INR 12 LPA for Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Technology courses. The highest and average stipends for the batch of 2024 stood at INR 70 K and INR 16.9 K, respectively.
