The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, popularly known as NIT Trichy, was established in 1964 as the Regional Engineering College Tiruchirappalli. In 2003, the college was granted deemed university status. From 2016 to 2022, NIT Trichy ranked number one among the NITs for seven straight years. The institute is ranked eighth by NIRF 2022 for BTech.

NIT Tiruchirappalli has 18 academic departments that offer more than 60 courses at the UG, PG, and PhD levels. The institute has received approvals from UGC and AICTE. Some of the courses offered by the institute are accredited by the NBA.

Candidates who are interested in applying to NIT Trichy are advised to check the eligibility criteria of their desired programmes. As the selection of candidates is based on the score of the national-level exam, the candidates have to appear in the particular exam accepted by the institute.

• For admission to the NIT Trichy B.Tech. and B.Arch. programmes, eligible applicants must register for and pass the JEE Main examination.
