The National Film Awards is the most prominent and prestigious award events in India in which the awards are given to best films as well as the actors who have done exceptional work in movies. 

It was established in 1954 and has been registered along with the International Film Festival of India and the Indian Panorama by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973. 

Through this award the government honored the films on a national scale and encouraged the furthering of Indian art and culture. This year will mark the 68th edition of the National Film Awards and the best films of the year 2020 will be awarded in this event.

68th National Film Awards Where & When to Watch?

The 68th National Film Awards will be announced today, on July 22, 2022 and will be given to the Best of Indian cinema in 2022.  The telecast of the award ceremony will start from 4 pm today on the official YouTube channel as well as the Facebook page of the Press Information Bureau (PIB). So if you want to see your favourite superstars to be awarded in the live event, you can watch it on YouTube.

68th National Film Awards Jury

The National Film Awards are presented in two main categories- Feature Films and Non-Feature Films. The juries are appointed by the Directorate of Film Festivals in India. 

Neither the government nor the directorate has influence over which films are selected for consideration and which films ultimately win awards. Over 100 films made across the country are entered in each category for the awards and deemed eligible each year.

Today, on July 22, 2022 the Minister of Information and Broadcast, Anurag Thakur took to his twitter today to announce that the report of the 68th National Film Awards selection had been handed over by the jury members to the ministry. These Jury members are:

  • Vipul Shah, Chair Feature Film Jury  
  • Chitrartha Singh, Chair Non-Feature Jury
  • Anant Vijay, Chair Best Writing of Cinema
  • Priyadarshanand, Chair Most Film Friendly State

Who can win Best Actor Awards?

As the 68th National Film Awards are to be announced in a few hours, Twitterati feel that Tamil superstar Suriya Sivakumar deserves to win Best actor award for his performance in Soorarai Pottru in which he played Nedumaaran Rajangam a.k.a. Maara. If this happens, it would be his first National Film Award.
