The interesting fact about the ’83 world cup is that there’s no video footage available of Kapil Dev’s unbeaten 175 against Zimbabwe in the group stage match. Owing to the broadcasting channel BBC was on strike that day, why? you will get the answer in the film.
The director aptly filmed that scene, in particular, that scene in the innings when Kapil hit the six and the ball went directly towards the Indian dugout.
Ranveer Singh portrayed the skipper Kapil’s role very beautifully, he has gone into the skin of the character, the film makes you laugh, and fills you with pride at the same time, goosebumps for sure.

Box Office Collection
Despite rave reviews from the critics ’83 couldn’t manage to accumulate the expected footfalls at the ticket windows. In its 8 weeks of theatrical run, ’83 minted around Rs 108.35 cr nett at the box office India and Rs 63.94 cr gross from the overseas.
’83 did the business of Rs 192.93 crores gross overall at the box office worldwide, but it can be considered a decent collection considering the covid situation at that time. Had the film been released in normal times it would have done the double business at the box office.
However, Theatregoers have shown their response, let’s see how the digital audience responds to the film. It is releasing soon on Netflix in Hindi, and on the Disney+ Hotstar in the dubbed versions.
