The film titled “Ae Watan Mere Watan” is an Amazon Prime Original film that is creating a lot of buzz as it features Sara Ali Khan in the key role. It went on the floor in October 2022.
Ae Watan Mere Watan Announcement Video
On Monday, January 23, 2022, ahead of India’s 74th Republic Day celebrations, Amazon Prime Video officially announced the upcoming film “Ae Watan Mere Watan,” featuring Sara Ali Khan as an Indian freedom fighter.
The announcement video features Sara in a retro look donning a white Saare, puling down curtains before sitting down to assemble a radio-like device in a dark room. After setting up the device properly, she says on the mic, “Free voices cannot be held captivated; this is the voice of Hindustan, from somewhere in the country.”
At the very next moment, a loud banging on the door can be heard. It seems someone gets what secret things are happening in the room and shocked look covers Sara’s face.
Ae Watan Mere Watan Star Cast
Actress Sara Ali Khan is playing the lead role in the film, and her character is inspired by Indian freedom fighter Usha Mehta. It is the first of its kind that she will be playing.
She was last seen in Aanand L. Rai’s romantic comedy film Atrangi Re alongside Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. Although the rest of the star cast hasn’t been revealed, Varun Dhawan is expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming Amazon Original film, as he announced the project as Sara’s Next in October 2022.
He introduces Sara as ‘lovely, beautiful and square root of Amrita Singh’. Veteran actress Amrita Singh is the mother of this popular young actress, first wife of Saif Ali Khan.
Ae Watan Mere Watan Plot
Reportedly, the film is inspired by the great Indian freedom fighter and Gandhian, Usha Mehta, who is remembered for organising a secret underground radio station, Congress Radio, also known as Azad Radio, that operated during the Quit India Movement of 1942.
It is the story of the bravery, patriotism, and sacrifice of freedom fighters who, at a very young age, dedicated themselves to the freedom struggle of India against the British. The film is an effort to bring some lesser known stories of the journey of India’s independence to the audience.

Veteran actor and filmmaker Kannan Iyer is helming this project which is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta under their Dharmatic Entertainment Production, co-produced by Somen Mishra. Kannan along with Darab Farooqui, also served as the film’s writer.
Ae Watan Mere Watan OTT Release Date
The Amazon Original film will skip the theatrical release and have a digital release on Amazon Prime Video. Although the makers haven’t made any official announcements regarding its release date, the film is expected to grace the platform in mid-2023.
