Anubhav Sinha and Ayushmann Khurrana’s political action thriller film Anek opened with below expectation figures on Day 1, the duo’s earlier outing Article 15 had seen an opening of Rs 5.02 Cr and went on to churn out the lifetime collections of Rs 65.45 Cr nett in India.
The film which was based on caste discrimination was considered a semi-hit at the box office, now this time the duo seems to have failed to charm the cinephiles at the box office.
Pre-corona content-based films would see a sort of opening but post-corona things have changed, viewers have become selective about what to watch or not. The film is based on the political conflict in northeast India and is a good watch for those who take interest in geopolitical affairs.
It was expected that the film will collect most from the multiplex, as on day 1 it was seen, in evening and night shows the trend was better. Though the first day had seen an opening revolving around Rs 2 Cr, the prediction of trade analysts has became true as the film saw a jump of 9% on Saturday.
As per the reports, Anek saw a slight jump on Saturday as compared to Friday and raked in Rs 2.30 Cr, the total two-day collections will stand at Rs 4.41 Cr nett.
Talking about the film, it saw mixed to negative early reviews, later the reviews got converted into mixed to positive, Times of India, The Print, and The Guardian gave the film 4 out of 5 stars, while News 18 and Quint gave the film 3 out of 5 stars.
Anubhav Sinha apart from directing the project serves as the writer and the screenplay writer of the film with Sima Agarwal and Yash Keshwani.
It is bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Anubhav Sinha under the banner T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks.
Ayushmann Khurana is playing the undercover office Joshua, Andera Kevichusa (Aido), Deeplina Deka (Pavlina Hazarika), and Kumud Mishra are in pivotal roles.
