The sequel of the highest-grossing movie of all time Avatar is all set to grace cinemas worldwide on Dec 2022. It is titled Avatar: The way of water. The film has been expected to take the box office by storm.
It also became evident from the collections of the re-release of Avatar that showed that the Audience still loves the film with all their heart. However, James Cameron has a plan ready in case things doesn’t go well at the box office for Avatar 2.
The filmmaker recently in an interview given to Total Film Magazine said that if The Way of Water underperforms at the box office the subsequent sequels after Avatar 3 will be shelved. That means Avatar 3 will be the last movie in the franchise.
For the unversed, The sequels (Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5 ) were announced by James Cameron in 2011, he mentioned in 2017 that writing for 4 sequels was completed.
Title and Release Date of Avatar Sequels
Avatar 3 is expected to be released on Dec 20, 2024, Avatar 4 on 18 Dec 2026, and the final film in the franchise, Avatar 5 is scheduled to be released on Dec 22, 2028.
The third film is titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer, the fourth is called Avatar: The Tulkun Rider, and the 5th film is titled Avatar: The Quest for Eywa, as per the entertainment portal Thrillist.
Part 4 and 5 happening or not, will be depend on business of Avatar 2 is running successfully in theatres, crossed $1B worldwide.
Production & Budget
Avatar 3 is said to be made on a budget of $250M which is similar to the budget of the prequels. The shooting for Avatar 3 commenced simultaneously with Avatar 2 in New Zealand on Sept 25, 2017. Cameron also said in the interview given to Total Film Magazine that if the Avatar 2 don’t get good response they will complete the story in the third film.
