The Indian cinema has come a long way from ‘romancing behind the flowers’ to creating thought-provoking, moving films like ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Mary Kom’ to ‘Dangal’.
Films are not only a medium of entertainment but they’re also meant to educate, influence, and enlighten the nation. The audience is left with no choice but to go to the theatres to experience the everlasting cinematic experiences created by the Bollywood giants.
We have seen plenty of epic biopics over the last couple of years. The films like ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ (2013), ‘Mary Kom’ (2014), ‘Neerja’ (2016), Dangal (2016), MS Dhoni (2016), ‘Sanju’ (2018) have truly changed how biopics were made in Bollywood.
This is the kind of cinema that connects the most with the audience. This has encouraged the makers to make more and more such films. The coming years will be swamped with numerous biopics based on the lives of interesting characters like those of cricketer Kapil Dev, producer of T-Series Gulshan Kumar and Indian Air Force Pilot Rakesh Sharma, etc.

The biopic fever is at an all-time high and it certainly doesn’t seem to die down. Besides the above listed, there are numerous other biopic projects in the pipeline like Osho, Shakeela, and ‘Salute’ (Rakesh Sharma biopic).
Most casting and film stories align well with each other but only time will tell which film transforms into a Box Office success and which one tanks forever.
Only star power doesn’t help biopics, good content along with excellent storytelling is the key to creating a successful biopic in Bollywood, Mohammad Azharuddin’s biopic is the perfect example of this.
