Danish political drama Borgen is all set to be back with its Season 4 soon. Created by Adam Price, Borgen first season aired in Denmark back in 2010. The series wrapped up after 3 seasons and it looked like the series was done for good, but that was until Netflix saw an opportunity to bring it back.
Though the series was well received and was an absolute hit in Denmark and the UK, it wasn’t a global hit until Netflix picked it up. The fourth season of the hit political thriller was first announced back in April 2002 as a collaboration between DR and Netflix. In September 2020, the streamer had released the first three seasons of the series.
The first season was shown in Denmark in the autumn of 2010, the second in the autumn of 2011, and the third on January 1, 2013. In the United Kingdom, BBC Four the first season was broadcasted on January 7, 2012, with a repeat-showing starting on June 13, 2012. The second season started on January 5, 2013, with initial overnight viewing figures of over one million for the first episode while the third season began on November 16, 2013, with two episodes being shown back-to-back.
Borgen Season 4 OTT Release Date
The filming of the fourth season began on January 12, 2021 in Denmark’s capital Copenhagen and it has already been streamed by Netflix in Nordic countries including Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. For the rest of the world, Netflix will premiere this season on June 2, 2022.

Created by Adam Price, the series is based on the screenplay by Jeppe Gjervig Gram, Maja Jul Larsen, Emilie Lebech Kaae, Martin Lidegaard and Price himself. It is directed by Soren Kragh-Jacobsen and Rumle Hammerich while produced by Camilla Hammerich under the banners of Danmark Radio (DR), Norsk Rikskringkasting (NRK) and Sveriges Television (SVT). Halfdan E. has composed the soundtrack and score of the series.
About the Series
The plot of the series revolves around its central character Birgitte Nyborg Christensen, a minor centrist politician who, becomes the first female Prime Minister of Denmark. The series doesn’t only depict her time in office but also goes on to portray both personal and professional aspects irrespective of the fact that whether she is the PM or not. It also highlights the struggle of a woman in the field.
