Bollywood’s ace filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s highly anticipated comedy-drama film Cirkus, which has been creating a lot of buzz since its announcement, has finally made its way to theatres on December 23, 2022.
The film has a big star cast that includes Ranveer Singh, Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Sharma, and many other great comedy stars of the industry like Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Tiku Talsania, Vijay Patkar, and others.
Cirkus is based on William Shakespeare’s popular play “The Comedy of Errors.” You will be amazed to know that apart from Cirkus, there are eight more Indian films that are based on the same play, including the Hindi films Do Dooni Char and Angoor.
Cirkus, which is UA-certified by the CBFC, marks the return of director Rohit Shetty after the 2021 action film Sooryavanshi, which turned out to be the biggest blockbuster Hindi film of the year.
Cirkus Advance Booking Day 1
Despite much hype and non-stop promotions, advance booking fell below expectations. As per trade reports, the Ranveer Singh starrer collected Rs. 1.10 crore from the advance bookings for day one, which is far below what was expected.
Being a film by Rohit Shetty, who is known for delivering superhit film franchises such as Golmaal and Singham, the advance booking was expected to be around 7-8 crores, but it did not go as planned.
Shetty is one of the ace directors of Bollywood, whose movies were well-received by the masses, but in this case, the results are shocking. In major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, and Pune, the film witnessed ticket sales below 10%, which made the situation for the film totally dull. This is because of the Avatar 2 fever among Indian audiences.
Cirkus Box-Office Collection Day 1
Cirkus has come as a great opportunity for Ranveer Singh, whose last two films, “83 and “Jayeshbhai Jordan,” were box-office failures. On the other side, it is another chance for Rohit Shetty to continue his record of phenomenal successes.
However, this time the results turned out to be opposite to what the team would have expected, as, despite too much hype, the film was ineffective at attracting audiences to go to the theaters, as per the trade reports.
As per the reports, Cikrus collected Rs 6.5 Cr approx on the opening day which is very low following Rohit Shetty’s blockbuster track record. The reason behind the dull performance of Rohit’s film is Avatar 2. James Cameron’s science-fiction film Avatar 2, has been breaking and creating many records.

The “Avatar 2” Fever Overshadows Cirkus
Avatar 2 grossed a whopping Rs. 40 crores on its opening day, and it is now inching toward the Rs. 200 crore mark at the Indian box office. The Christmas weekend is going to witness a big hike in the number of people watching the film, so it could be tough for Cirkus to survive at the box office.
Avatar 2 is dominating the Indian box office and Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 is still doing great.
As multi-starrer “Cirkus” has arrived in theatres, social mediaa is flooded with reviews and opinions regarding the movie. With weak storyline and screenplay, it couldn’t succeed in leaving its impact on the audience. Popular Indian movie critic Taran Adarsh called the film “outdated” and gave 2 out of 5 stars.
