Chiyaan Vikram’s long-promised and highly anticipated film Cobra wrapped up shooting in the first quarter of 2022 and is now hit the theatres from 31st of August.
Cobra is a psychological action thriller in which Vikram is playing a genius mathematician, seen in multi looks in the film. The production of this magnum opus began in Sept 2019 and after on & off filming schedules, shooting finally wrapped up in the initial week of Feb 2022.

Red Giant Movies locked as TN distributor
Recently, makers unveiled a 46-sec video announcing the news that Cobra’s Tamil Nadu theatrical rights are bagged by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies. The producer of the film is SS Lalit Kumar’s Seven Screen Studios.
Star Cast of Cobra
- Vikram in the titular role of Madhiazhagan, a genius mathematician, uses his brain in doing crimes in the film.
- Former Indian Cricketer Irfan Pathan will also be marking his acting debut with Cobra, he is essaying an Interpol officer’s character.
- On the other Srinidhi Shetty who marked her acting debut with the 2018 blockbuster K.G.F: Chapter 1, will be making her Kollywood debut through the film.
- Other actors Roshan Mathew, Mohammad Ali Baig, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Kanika, Sarjano Khalid, Mirnalini Ravi, Mamukkoya,
- Anandaraj, Renuka, Sindhu Shyam, Robo Shankar, Poovaiyar, and TSR are also featured in the film.
Cobra Release Date
It was earlier scheduled to be released on the second week of Aug during independence week, however, makers postponed the release to a new date of 31 August 2022. Makers shared the news through their social media handles, Cobra will be released in three languages Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
After Vikram’s last film Mahaan which opt to release directly to the streaming platform, rumors were rife that Cobra too will be released on the digital platforms given the covid circumstances though makers in Oct already had said in an interview that they will not choose the OTT way.
Earlier it was being said that the makers are thinking to release the film in cinemas in quarter 2 (June-July) of 2022. Now, the makers with a release date announcement video also unviels that the long-awaited film of Chiyaan Vikram will be released on 11 Aug 2022, however, due to unknown reasons it again got postponed to a new release date of Aug 31.

The makers had already unveiled its teaser on the social media platforms in Jan 2021 which was well received by the audience and created much hype amongst the audience. The action-packed teaser has been viewed over 2 crore times on YouTube with 9.6 lakh likes.

Cobra is written and directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, it is his third directorial venture after Demonte Colony and Imaikkaa Nodigal. S. S. Lalit Kumar financed the film under the banner Seven Screen Studios. Viacom 18 Motion Pictures are the distributors.
On the technical parts, Cinematography is looked after by Harish Kannan and the Editing is done by Bhuvan Srinivasan. Known music composer A.R Rahman has given the music.
