The highly anticipated film of the year Doctor Strange 2 has finally been released on the big screens this Friday, the film created much curiosity among the cinephiles with Marvel’s last outing Tom Holland’s Spiderman as Strange being one of the significant parts of the film.
Spiderman: NWH was released last year in Dec, it came at the box office in a beast mode and went on to become the all-time 6th highest-grossing film with an overall collection of 1.89 billion dollars (INR 14513 crores approx).
A similar kind of expectation was being kept from Doctor Strange 2 as the film had outstanding advance bookings globally, in India the craze for the superhero film was also looking another level.
Box Office Collection Day 1
Doctor Strange 2 was released on over 2500 screens across India, and the early reports suggest that it minted Rs 27.50 crores in all versions (English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam) with the opening day collections, the film became the 4th biggest Hollywood opening day grosser in India.
After Avengers Endgame (Rs 53.10 Cr), Spiderman: NWH (Rs 32.67 Cr), and Avengers Infinity War (Rs 31.30 Cr), though Tom Holland’s film was released amid the pandemic with 50% occupancy and had got the most number of screens 3200+.

Though the advance bookings of the film had been opened a month ago, the film had already netted Rs 20.65 crores for day 1 with advance ticket booking numbers of 6.5 lakhs, before the release. It had surpassed the advance bookings of Spiderman which sold tickets worth over Rs 15 Cr on the first day.
The English version of the film took the lead followed by Hindi, Telugu and so on, most collections came from down south given it is the major market for Hollywood films.
Benedict Cumberbatch starrer had a world premiere on Monday 2nd May, where the film has got the out and out positive reviews, the film got the average 3 stars out of 5 from the critics, Sam Raimi’s direction is widely praised by the critics following the performances by the main leads, story, and the visual effects. As per the critics, DS2 is Marvel’s creepiest film to date.
As we have said earlier that Doctor Strange 2 will be screened in between 2500-3000 cinemas, the latest reports suggest that the Benedict starrer graces over 2500 screens.

BOC Opening Day (Early Estimation)
We had estimated that -“Sam Raimi’s directorial has already minted Rs 20 crores for day 1 through advance bookings and it will collect around Rs 5 to 10 crores through spot bookings also, so it seems that Doctor Strange will be going to enjoy a Rs 30 Cr opening day at the box office India.”
“As per our early estimation, it will collect in the range of Rs 25-30 crores** on Day 1, though the film has the potential to break the record of Spiderman: NWH, as far as the advance bookings and the positive reviews for the film are concerned.”
As we have projected that the Benedict starrer will rake in between Rs 250 to Rs 30 crores and it fetched the amount Rs 27.50 Crs, it collected most from the south especially from Nizam/Ceeded area, followed by Tamil, as they have been the major market for Hollywood flicks.
