Popular Indian filmmaker Hansal Mehta is set to reunite with Applause Entertainment and Siddharth Basu soon, for his upcoming period drama series (working) titled Gandhi based on the life of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
Hansal Mehta will direct this most ambitious project. The filmmaker rose to fame after directing films like Shahid, which won him National Award for Best Director, City Lights, Aligarh, Simran etc.
In addition to that, he gained a huge popularity for directing SonyLIV’s financial thriller series Scam 1992, based on the life of Indian stockbroker Harshad Mehta. Now, with Gandhi he seems to deliver something unique and promising.

Gandhi Cast & Crew
The upcoming series Gandhi will reunite Hansal Mehta with one of the biggest production houses of the industry Applause Entertainment as well as talented actor Pratik Gandhi, after sleeper hit web-show Scam 1992. Mehta is also serving as the showrunner in the series.
The production house, which is the venture of the Aditya Birla Group, headed by Samir Nair, has also produced series like Criminal Justice, Hostages, Bhaukaal, Mithya, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness etc.
It will produce “Gandhi” at an International standard for a global audience and film it extensively across several Indian and foreign locations. Also joining the creative team is producer Siddharth Basu who is reuniting with Sameer Nair after 22 years of the cut show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”.
Actor Pratik Gandhi who will portray the role of Gandhi ji has also expressed his excitement towards this project and called it the biggest ever story of his career. He was most recently seen in Amazon Prime Video’s romantic drama series Modern Love Mumbai.

About the Series
The series will be based on the writings of notable historian and author Ramchandra Guha. It is adapted from his books “Gandhi Before India”, published by Penguin India in 2013 as well as “Gandhi- The Years that Changed the World”, published by Penguin Random House in 2018.
Set in the period of India’s independence struggle from the cruel British Raj, the series will showcase the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his crucial role in the freedom struggle.
