Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt tells the life story of how Ganga Harjivandas becomes the Gangubai Kathiawadi, a madame of a brothel, releases on Feb 25 (Friday).
The film had its world premiere at Berlin Intl Film Festival in Feb 2022 from where it got rave reviews and still continuing to do so. Critics praised the performances of Alia, Vijay Raaz, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction, production designing, and dialogues.
Movie critic and biz analyst Taran Adarsh gave the film 4 out of 5 stars calling the film brilliant, India Today gave 3.5/5, Aaj Tak 3/5, and the entertainment website Koimoi gave the film 4 out of 5 stars, they praised Alia’s act, calling her career-best performance.

As per the reports, the film is being released on over 3000 screens in India in all three languages Hindi including the dubbed versions of Tamil and Telugu. SLB’s directorial is said to be the most expensive women-centric film ever, it has surpassed the budget of Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika.

We expected that the film would mint around Rs 8-10 crores on the opening day given the corona situation where the major market Maharashtra is still running with half occupancy. There is no denying had the film been released at normal times, it would have minted double (Rs 14-15 Cr) numbers at the box office.

30 Cr+ Opening Weekend is good for this movie which is happening per the early estimate, films like Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Badhaai Do, Tadap, and others are also praised but their Box Office success was not big, Bollywood needs Box Office run like Sooryavanshi.
Digital, Satellite, and Audio Rights
And it is said to have collected Rs 110 crores already from the Satellite (Rs 60 Cr), Digital (30 Cr), and Audio Rights (20 Cr). Now Gangubai Kathiawadi needs Rs 90 crores to reach its breakeven point which it might have earned from the theatrical rights.
Now that the theatrical business will only add the bonus to the film, as per our early estimates the film will garner a good amount of footfalls on an opening weekend considering Alia is doing the never seen before role, SLB’s track records of hits, and the first big-budget film of the year.
