Directed and written by Rian Johnson, American mystery film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is the sequel of 2019 film Knives Out, which received universal critical acclaim and nominations in prestigious films events like 77th Global Globe Awards, 73rd British Academy Film Awards and 92nd Academy Awards.
The sequel was greenlit by its original distributor Lionsgate in 2022, but in March 2021, OTT giant Netflix bought the rights to two Knives Out sequels for $469 million. It is Johnson’s sixth directorial venture after Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Looper, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Knives Out.

Apart from them, Ethan Hawke briefly appears as Miles’s assistant as Efficient Man, and Hugh Grant cameos as Philip. Also, several celebrities make cameo appearances as themselves, including Stephen Sondheim, Angela Lansbury (in her final, posthumous role), Natasha Lyonne, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Yo-Yo Ma, and Serena Williams.
BO Collection from the Limited Theatre-Run
The film had its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 10, 2022, and apart from that, it was also screened at the Philadelphia Film Festival, BFI London, Film Fest 919, the Miami International Film Festival, etc.
Following screenings at these prestigious film festivals, the film also began a one-week limited theatrical release on November 23, 2022, receiving the widest theatrical release ever for a Netflix film. Reportedly, it grossed around $15 million during its weeklong run in roughly 600 theatres.
OTT Release Date
After having its premiere in international film festivals and receiving critical acclaim with praise for its screenplay, direction, performance, and musical score from its one-week theatre run, the film is set to make its way to Netflix on December 23, 2022.
