House of Secrets

Based on the true story of the Chundawat family, ‘House of Secrets: The Burari deaths’ is now available on Netflix from October 8, 2021. The horrifying story of the family of 11 members, this documentary is an attempt to unravel the mystery of their shocking deaths.

This is a documentary series but the plot or a horrible story attracts the audience, storyteller, or the director duo Leena Yadav and Anubhav Chopra’s direction getting praised all over the internet.

Background

The Chundawat family lived in a double-story house in Sant Nagar, Burari. They were a family of 11 members, which also included two kids, aged 15.

It was on the fateful morning of Jul 1, 2018, that the Chundawat family was found hanging by their neighbor. The strangest part is that only 10 out of the 11 members were found hanging and the oldest member of the family, Narayani Devi (77), was found strangled, indicating that she had been forced.

It was a family of two brothers. After the death of their father, Bhopal Singh, the younger son, Lalit Singh(45) was found disturbed by the incident which resulted in him indulging in various religious rituals. He was often seen praying in front of trees or offering food to animals.

The bodies were discovered by their neighbor, Gurcharan Singh, on July 1, 2018, at 7:15 am, who used to go on morning walks with Lalit Singh every day. On visit the house, Gurcharan Singh was taken aback to witness the hanging bodies of 10 members and a strangled old woman.

Their bodies were found blindfolded and their mouths taped. Some of them even had their hands and feet tied. The only thing that looked common was that all of them were hanging with colorful dupattas. The old woman was found in another room.

About the Docu-series (Burari Deaths)

Directed by Leena Yadav and Anubhav Chopra, composed and produced by AR Rehman and Qutub-E-Kripa, the docu-series is all set to release on Netflix on October 8, 2021. The three-part docu-series explores the mysterious deaths of the Chundawat family.

The secret deaths of the three-generation of families remain unsolved to date. The docu-series walks us through the whole incident, from the discovery of their dead bodies to the investigation. Was it a murder, suicide, or something else? No one knows. This docu-series is sure to give you the thrills.

Can you imagine the horrifying scene of the mysterious deaths of 11 members of the same family on the same day? I don’t think anybody can! But this is true. No matter the chills that it gave you in your spine, the death of the Chundawat family is a secret that went with them only!

Was it a murder or a suicide? Nobody knows but the police officials surely managed to dig past the eerie story! The younger son of Bhopal Singh, Lalit happened to be the main string of the whole incident.

Watching the docu-series, we can certainly tell that Lalit had some serious mental health issues that made him succumb and made the whole family succumb as well. The series showed how his previous accidents, where he was seen in a road accident once and later in a fight with men where he was dumped in a room with fire.

This is said when he had lost his ability to speak. People had different opinions on this too. They felt was he really not able to speak or was he just pretending? The whole character of Lalit has been portrayed as secretive.

After his father’s death, Lalit had lost himself even more and this is when things started getting worse. Lalit often told his family members that his father comes in his dreams and instructs him.

This came to be actually true when the police officials found 11 diaries in their house. The diaries had some spine-chilling aspect to them! It was Bhopal Singh’s instructions given to the family members.

At first, it was believed that Lalit himself was writing the diaries but was later confirmed that two girls of the house, Tina and Priyanka were behind them. The whole incident was so strange where several shocking revelations were made.

For instance, they were a total of 11 members and the diaries were 11, there were 11 pipes by the side of the house wall, in which 4 of them were bent indicating the 4 women of the house and 8 were straight with 8 men in the house.

The weirdest thing about all this is that the event took place exactly 11 years after the diaries were started to be written. From 2007 to 2018, they hanged themselves after 11 years! 11 deaths, 11 pipes, 11 diaries, and 11 years!

What is the real story behind their untimely deaths and what pricked them in taking such a massive step, why didn’t the children oppose? All of these questions cannot be answered by anyone else except them. This case was and will continue to remain a mystery!
