Shahid Kapoor starrer long-awaited sports drama film Jersey after being pushed back several times owing to various reasons will now be hitting the theatres on 22 April 2022. Will the monster K.G.F 2 run riot at the box office affect its collections? read on to know.
Jersey is the adaptation of the 2019 Telugu film of the same name starring Nani, it revolves around an ex Ranji team champion, who is hard up and struggling to make ends meet, things veered when his son demands the Indian team Jersey, to fulfill his wish, the ex-cricketer past comes in between.
Now he begins to fulfill his dream to play for the Indian cricket team along with his child’s wish of Jersey, what happens next, forms the rest of the story.
Jersey Screen Counts
The film will see a loss on its screen counts given the fact that Yash starrer K.G.F 2 is continuing the domination at the box office, especially in Hindi, and is expected to do so for further weeks also and will be the exhibitor’s first choice.
Shahid’s film which would have been released on around 5500 screens worldwide, hadn’t been K.G.F released. It will now be relegated to around over 2000 screens, recently film’s north distributor Pen Studios’s Jayantilal Gada also confirmed this in an interview given to the entertainment portal Bollywood Hungama.
Clash with K.G.F 2
Jersey was to be locking horns with two much-hyped south Indian films in the Hindi belt, K.G.F-Chapter 2 and the Thalapathy Vijay starrer RAW (Beast), but as the makers ahead few days left of the film’s release, pushed it back to a week.
The Shahid starrer now will have a solo release on April 22 (Friday), the film will face the competition with Yash starrer as the response from the cine lovers for Rocky Bhai starrer K.G.F 2 is phenomenal across the country, it minted over Rs 180 Cr on the opening weekend at the box office in Hindi.
Advance Bookings
Many are saying that the reason behind the postponement of Jersey is the poor advance sales, where till April 9 Jersey had collected Rs 0.5 Cr in Hindi, K.G.F 2 had done the business of Rs 12.5 Cr (excluding the home market, AP & TS),

The advance booking of Jersey had been opened, and the film did the business worth over Rs 5 Crs business from the advance ticket sales, as per the estimation.
The decision of pushing the release date back to a week, is in our opinion is a good decision, as the way KGF 2 is getting the response across the country including the Hindi belt, it would have been impossible for Sahid starrer to stand in front of the box office monster K.G.F 2.
Jersey Box Office Predictions
Talking about the Bo predictions, now, the film will be releasing a week later than the south biggie, there are some points that can benefit the Shahid starrer:
- Shahid starrer is also itself a remake of already a hit south Indian film, so the story is already there,
- Second, his last track record of the blockbuster with Kabir Singh
- And the most important part is the film is based on cricket, which in India is itself a religion, it doesn’t matter whether it is based on a true story or scripted, if the cricket is there, the chances of the film to become a success, increases.
- Shahid is back on the silver screens after almost two years
As per our early predictions, The film would collect around Rs 6 Cr nett on an opening day, further word of mouth will ensure whether the film is going to head for a strong weekend or dull.
