Shahid Kapoor plays cricketer’s role in the sports drama Jersey, the film postponed several times in the past owing to schedule, injury and covid reasons, and now the film has finally been released in theatres but couldn’t see the expected results.
Gowtam Tinnanuri is the director as well as the writer of the film, it’s the sequel of his commercial success Telugu film by the same name. The official trailer was released on the 23rd of Nov 2021, creating the same magic as Kabir Singh, the most successful film of Shahid Kapoor’s career.
Jersey explores a 36 yr old unemployed man (Arjun) story who at this age wants to join the cricket team after his son demands the jersey. The film was booked for 14th of April after 31st Dec 2021 posteponement but avoided clash with magnum opus KGF Chapter 2 and finally released in theatres on 22 April 2022.
Shahid worked hard for this role, reportedly he had gotten 13 stitches during a scene, but was later recovered though. It is bankrolled by Allu Aravind along with Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, Aman Gill, and Dil Raju.
Jersey OTT Release
Jersey was earlier slated to release in Aug 2020 but the film was pushed to Nov 2021 owing to the delay in the production due to covid, the film again saw the postponement two times due to various reasons.
Earlier, the rumors were rife that the Shahid starrer will directly choose to opt for the digital route but makers later defied the rumours by saying that Jersey is only meant for the theatrical release. Now Netflix India shares the release date ’20 May 2022′ for its digital premiere.

Casting & Production
Mrunal Thakur is playing the main lead actress opposite Shahid, earlier Aashiqui fame Shraddha Kapoor, and south actress Rashmika Mandanna were cast as the lead actress respectively but later replaced as Mrunal for reason unknown.
However, Film’s shooting began in Dec 2019 and lasted till Dec 2020, owing to on & Off production due to novel coronavirus.

Shahid Kapoor is playing the role of Ranji Cricketer Arjun Talwar who due to politics had to leave the cricket, Mrunal Thakur as Arjun’s wife Vidya, Pankaj Kapur is playing Arjun’s coach, and Ronit Kamra in the role of Karan also known as Kittu in the film.
It is made under the banner of Allu Entertainment with the collab of Dill Raju Production, The distributors are Balaji telefilms for North, along with Pen Marudhar Entertainment for the south.
