Marathi filmmaker Nagraj Manjule is marking his Hindi debut with the biographical sports film Jhund, which hit the theatres on March 4. It stars Amitabh Bachchan in the main lead role as Vijay Barse.
The big-b starrer got rave reviews at the pre-screenings, it was praised for the direction, story, humor, and performance of the entire star cast. NDTV gave it a 4.5 out of 5 stars, The Print gave 4.5/5 stars, Bollywood Hungama 4/5 stars, The Quint 4/5 stars, TOI 3.5/5, and India Today gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Aamir and Dhanush praised the film
Not only the critics but the stars like Aamir Khan and Dhanush also gave positive reviews to the film, while the former called it the career best of senior Bachchan, the latter called it a masterpiece.
Clash
Talking about the box office collection, Jhund faced a clash on Friday with the Hollywood superhero film The Batman. Both the films have seen fewer promotions but the craze of Hollywood films especially the particular genre has shown growth over the years. Post avengers the superhero films doing amazing business at the box office India.
Not only this, but senior Bachchan starrer also faced a tough battle with Alia’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, which is doing decent business even on the weekdays and inching towards Rs 100 Crs.
Also, we haven’t seen message-driven films doing good business for a while like ’83, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Thalaivi, these films got positive responses from the critics but failed to garner the footfalls at the ticket counter.
Box Office Collection Day 1
As per the latest report of Box Office India, Jhund accumulated a very low (Rs 1 crore) on an opening day (Friday). The report stated that the film has the chance to work in Maharashtra. Let’s see how the Big B starrer performs in further days.

The positive point for the Nagraj Manjule directorial is that most of the theatres are now running with full occupancy including the major market Maharashtra where the Marathi director is quite popular.
Also, the film got rave reviews at the pre-screenings so we can expect the positive word of mouth would help to grow the film’s business in further days.
The day 1 box office number is purely based on our early estimates, the film can collect more, however, we’ll be up to date with this article whenever the Day1 (Friday) box office final report comes in.
