Joker 2 to be Musical: Lady Gaga in talks to play opposite Joaquin Phoenix

Directed by Todd Phillips, 2019 Oscar winning psychological thriller film Joker is set to return with sequel titled Folie a deux, with Joaquin Phoenix back on his role as Arthur Fleck a.k.a. Joker. Unlike Joker, the sequel is set to be a musical. 

Joker was based on the characters appearing in Comic books published by DC comics and was written by its director Phillips along with Scott Silver. The Warner Bros. Pictures production won many nominations and accolades and also grossed & 1 billion at Box- office worldwide.

At the 92nd Academy Awards or the Oscar, the film received 11 nominations, including best pictures, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, winning best actor for Phoenix and Best Original Score Hildur Guonadottir. 

Last week, Phillips revealed on social media that the title of the second film will be Folie  a deux, which refers to a medical term for an identical or similar mental disorder that affects two or more individuals, usually members of the same family. Phillips has been co-writing the script with his Joker co-writer Scott Silver and has finally shown it to the studio.

Lady Gaga to Star in the Joker Sequel

Ever since the sequel of the superhit psychological thriller has been announced, another thing that is doing rounds all over social media is that Hollywood’s popular singer and actor Lady Gaga is all set to make her debut in Joker film series. Reportedly, the makers are in talks with the singer to bring her onboard to play the character of Harley Quinn, and if everything goes well Gaga will be seen as Quinn in the sequel.

About the Harley Quinn Character

Although the details of Gaga’s character Harley Quinn are being kept under wraps, Joker is known for his on-off abusive relationship with Quinn, who is his psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum , a mental institution and falls in love with him and becomes an important part of his life as well as partner in crime.
