Malayalam beauty Aishwarya Lekshmi starrer Malayalam mythological fantasy film, Kumari is set set to have its digital streaming after having theatrical run. It is the second feature directorial project of young director Nirmal Sahadev, after the Prithiviraj Sukumaran starrer 2018 action film Ranam.
The film is produced by Giju John, Nirmal Sahadev, Sreejith Sarang, and Jakes Bejoy under the banner of “The Fresh Lime Sodas. The music was composed, programmed, and arranged by Jakes Bejoy and Manikandan Ayyappa.
About the Film
The film stars Lekshmi in the titular role, Kumari Devan whereas Shine Tom Chacko as her husband Dhruvan. Lekshmi will next feature in Tamil film Gatta Kusthi and Mollywood megastar Mammootty starrer action thriller Christopher.
Kumari also features Swasika, Surabhi Lakshmi, Spadikam George, Tanvi Ram, Rahul Madhav, Shruthy Menon, Shivajith Padmanabhan, Biju John, and Santhakumari in key roles.
The plot of the film revolves around Kumari, who is married off far away in a cursed land Kanhirangat. What happened when this naive girl arrived in a land where people were ready to sacrifice their lives to preserve tradition and power, is the crux of the story.
The film garnered a mixed response from critics as well as audience, with praises for Aishwaya Lekhsmi’s performance; however, it was criticised due to its screenplay. Billed as a horror thriller, the film’s narrative flows in a rather predictable manner, leaving only a few moments of thrill and fear.
The film made on a budget of around Rs. 5–6 crore, couldn’t leave its impact at the box office and ended up grossing only Rs. 1.16 crore.
OTT Release Date
After its theatrical run, the film is set to be released on OTT. OTT giant Netflix has acquired the film’s post-theatrical digital rights, and streaming on the platform.
