Directed by Manoj Leonel Jahson and Shyam Sundar, Kuthiraivaal is a Tamil psychological drama film which already is one of only few movies of Tamil Film Industry, which are based on magic realism in addition to Suresh Krissna’s 2001 thriller film Aalavandhan.
The film was released theatrically on March 18, 2022, although the film got mixed response from the public and critics, its unique concept and the performance of the lead actor Kalaiyarasan both received lots of appreciation.
The film is written by G. Rajesh and is bankrolled by Pa. Ranjith along with Vignesh Sundaresan under the banners of Neelam Productions and Yaazhi Films.
On the technical front, Karthik Muthukumar has taken care of cinematography and editing has been handled by Gridaran MKP. The film’s songs were composed by Pradeep Kumar and background score is composed by Martian Visser.

About the Film
The story of this psychological drama is loosely inspired by German speaking Bohemian Franz Kafka’s novel titled The Metamorphosis was published by Kurt Wolff Verlag, a German-based publisher, in 1915.
The film’s story is centered around Saravanan, who is a bank cashier and calls himself Freud. One day he had a dream in which he witnessed some bizarre things happening around him such as a horse without a tail, a sky with both the Sun and the Moon at the same time.
After waking up from the strange dream he realizes that he has grown a horse’s tail mysteriously, after which he embarks on his journey to figure out the mystery behind his tale, through dreams, illusions and memories encountering some bizarre and peculiar characters.

Kuthiraivaal OTT Release Date
The film had its theater release on March 18, 2022 and ran successfully in theaters. It was earlier scheduled for release on March 4, 2022 but got postponed.
The film also premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala on Feb 12 and received an amazing response there. Apart from that the film was also screened at Berlin Critics Week on Feb 27, 2021.
The film already had its International premiere at Berlin Critic Film Festival on February 27, 2021, and became the first Indian film to do so. It also premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala on February 12, 2021, and is open to positive responses from critics.
Now, after having a theater release, the questions are being asked about its post-theatrical OTT release by the viewers who couldn’t make it to the theater. The film is releasing on 20th of April 2022 on Netlfix.
