One of the leading OTT platforms, Disney+Hotstar announced the slate of its upcoming shows and movies at the 7th D23 expo, an annual fan event, in Anaheim, California, USA. The event which started on September 9 will conclude on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
Along with multiple International projects, 3 Indian projects were also announced in the world’s biggest fan fest event. It Includes one of the biggest Indian projects till date and that is an adaptation of the mythical epic Mahabharata.
Series Adaptation of Mahabharat Announced
Disney announced the series adaptation of the greatest epic ever written, Mahabharat, as part of Hotstar Special, and this is going to be an ambiguous and big budget project. Along with announcing the series, Disney+Hotstar also shared some animated pictures of the war-scenes from the epic, in the battlefield.

Mahabharat Cast & Crew
Mahabharat marks the collaboration of Disney+Hotstar with popular Bollywood producer Madhu Mantena, known for Bombay Velvet, Udta Punjab. She is going to bankroll the project in association with Allu Entertainment and Mythoverse Studio. The platform said that the star cast of the show is still being worked out.
Mahabharat OTT Release Date
Disney+Hotstar also revealed that this epic series will be launched in 2024. The other 2 Indian projects announced in the expo are Emraan Hashmi starrer Showtime produced by filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Production. set to be released in 2023, and the 8th season of the filmmaker’s popular Chat show Koffee With Karan.
About the Epic Mahabharat
The Hindu epic Mahabharat is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other being the Ramayana. It narrates the conflict between two groups of cousins- Kauravas and Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War. It is the longest epic poem known and has been described as “the longest poem ever written”. Traditionally, the authorship of Mahabharat is attributed to Maharshi Vedavyasa.
