The 95th Academy Awards or Oscars 2023 took place on March 12, 2023. The event was produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, the latter was also the director.
Jimmy Kimmel, comedian and late-night talk show host, hosted the show for the third time after 2017 (89th edition) and 2018 (90th edition). “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won seven awards out of eleven nominations, the most of the ceremony. From India, RRR and The whisperers won the Oscar awards.
RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu won’ the Oscar for Best Original Song whereas Kartiki Gonsalves-directed short ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won the Academy Award for Best Documentary short.
With this, both movies have created history. Naatu Naatu became the first Indian-produced song to win the award. It is the second Indian song to win the Oscar award, after Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire in 2009 in the same category. On the other, The Elephant Whisperers became the first Indian film to win an Oscar in the Best Documentary Short Subject category.

Apart from ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, which received the most awards at Oscars 2023. Other winners included ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’ (4 awards), ‘The Whale’ (2 awards).
Top Gun: Maverick, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Avatar 2, Women Talking, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, and Navalny each won one. Short Film winners include An Irish Goodbye, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse, and The Elephant Whisperers.

Having also won the golden globe for Best original song in Jan, Naatu Naatu’s global domination is now complete. The song was performed live during the ceremony. Deepika Padukone introduced the performance. With this, DP became the third Indian to attend as a presenter after Persis Khambatta and Priyanka Chopra.
RRR is the first Indian film and Naatu Naatu is the first Indian song, Indian produced venture, to have won an oscar.
