Amazon Prime Video, the leading streaming giant always comes up with something new and promising for its viewers. Whether it is a web-series or a film, it always delivers contents with a variety of genres including action, horror, romance, thriller etc., that is the reason behind the huge popularity of the platform.
Amazon on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at a glitzy showcase event, held in Mumbai, unveiled an enormous slate of 40 new titles spanning original series, movies and co-productions. The slate includes Hindi, Tamil, Telugu projects, with the entire collection to be premiered in India over the next two years.
The streamer announced the titles of fresh series including Shahid Kapoor led Farzi, Naga Chaitanya starrer Dhootha, Annu Kapoor led Crash Course, Sonakshi Sinha led Dahhad and many others. Along with this, it also announced the renewal of its runway hit including crime thriller web series Paatal Lok.
The debut season of the series was released on May 15, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video, all the nine episodes were premiered on the same day. It eventually received highly positive response from critics, praising the performance of the star cast, storyline, writing and direction. It received eight nominations at the inaugural Filmfare OTT Awards and won five out of them.
In may the makers announced that the second season is to be conceptualized and finally Amazon has announced the renewal of the series of its second season.
Paatal Lok Season 2 Star Cast & Crew
Actor Jaideep Ahlawat, who played the Delhi Police officer Hathiram Chaudhary and won many hearts with his excellent performance, will reprise his iconic role in the second season. For his performance in the debut season he won the Filmfare OTT Awards in the Best Actor category.
He is one of the key reasons for the success of the first season. Reportedly, for his return in the second season, the actor is being paid a hefty amount of Rs. 20 Crore which is almost 50 times of what he was paid in the first season. He will next be seen in Zee5’s mini-series Bloody Brothers, an official adaptation of British TV show Guilt, alongside Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as one of the main leads.
Paatal Lok is created and written by Sudip Sharma who is known for his work in movies like Sonchiriya (2019), Udta Punjab (2016) and NH10 (2015). It is based on the book “The Story of My Assassins” by Tarun Tejpal. Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma’s Clean Slate Filmz is producing the series.

Along with Paatal Lok, the streamer also announced renewal of the super-successful series like Mirzapur, Family Man, Panchayat etc.
About the Series
The plot of the series revolves around Hathiram Chaudhary, an Inspector, who gets assigned to investigate a high-profile case- that is the murder mystery of a famous journalist Sanjeev Mehra. Four people are charged with plotting the murder. As the inspector starts investigation, it leads him to shocking discoveries in the past of the four suspects and dragged him into the darker realms of the underworld.
