Phule is an upcoming Hindi biographical film, based on the lives of social reformers and activists Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule.
The film is directed by National award winning director-cum-actor Anant Narayan Mahadevan, who has directed many acclaimed films such as Marathi film Mee Sindhutai Sapkal, a National award winning film, Gour Hari Dastaan- The Freedom File and many others.
The film was jointly bankrolled by Raj Kishore Khaware, Pranay Chokshi, Saurabh Varma, Utpaal Acharya, Anuya Chauhan Kudecha and Ritesh Kudecha under the banners of Content Engineers and Shiva Productions.
Earlier, a Marathi biopic titled “Mahatma Phule” was also made in 1954 by director Pralhad Keshav Atre and it won the National Film Award for the Best Feature Film in Marathi.
Phule Star Cast
Gujarati actor Pratik Gandhi is playing the role of Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule. He rose to fame with Hansal Mehta’s financial thriller web series Scam 1992, based on the life of Indian stockbroker Harshad Mehta, who was accused of 1992 Indian stock Market scam.
Further, he played the lead role along with Richa Chadha, in Disney+ Hotstar’s crime mystery drama series The Great India Murder, which was also based on a real-life incident. It was produced by Ajay Devgn and directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia.
Actress Patralekhaa Paul, who married to talented actor Rajkummar Rao in November, last year, after an 11 year long relationship, is playing as Savitribai Phule in the film.
Patralekhaa made her acting debut with Hansal Mehta directorial film City Lights in 2014 alongside her husband Rajkummar Rao. Phule marks the fourth film of her career after City Lights, 2016 erotic film Love Games and 2018 horror comedy Nanu ki Jaanu.
Both the lead actors show their utmost happiness for working in the film. Pratik said that it is an honor for him to showcase the social reformer’s legacy to the world through the film while Patralekhaa said that this is the one film that will stay with her after it is over.
Phule First Look Poster Out
On Monday, April 11, 2021, on the occasion of the 195th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, the makers unveiled the first look of this biographical film.
Ever since the poster has been unveiled, it has created so much excitement among the fans. It looks very promising and features Pratik and Patralekhaa in typical Marathi looks as Mahatma Phule and Savitribai Phule respectively.

Phule Release Date
Although the exact release date is yet to be announced by its makers. It is confirmed that the film will be released theatrically in 2023.
