The highly anticipated Tamil epic historical film Ponniyin Selvan hit the big screens on 30th of Sep. National film award winner filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s much-hyped magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is based on the writer-activist Kalki Krishnamoorthy’s novel of the same name.
The film tells the fictional tale of one of the greatest Indian kings Raja Raja Chola first. This is being called filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s dream project.
PS-1 Theatrical Release
Ponniyin Selvan releases in two parts the part one hit the theatres on 30 September 2022. The Tamil language historical film has its release in four other languages Tamil along with its dubbed version Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu.

Digital Rights
As we have said earlier, the post-theatrical digital rights of the film have been acquired by the giant streaming the Amazon Prime Video, it is being said that both parts of the film is acquired by the platform for a huge Rs 125 crores. Available on rent in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu from 28th of October, now prime users can stream this from 4th of Nov (12 AM).
PS-1 OTT Release Date
PS1 went on the floors in Dec 2019 and concluded in Sept 2021, the film is currently rolling at Box Office. Talking about the digital premiere of the film, earlier it was being said that due to the long-delayed in production of the film, makers are contemplating on the digital debut of the film.
Further makers refuted all the claims saying that film like Ponniyin Selvan is made only for the theatres. Pan India Film Ponniyin Selvan could be made available for the digital audience after the theatrical release, it will more likely be available on the streaming platform after the 4-5 weeks stay of the film in theatres (Expecting from 4th of Nov).
Amazon Prime Video users can watch this Mani Ratnam’s masterpiece soon in November, official date will be announced soon. The film has collection Rs 480 Cr+ WW, still adding amid multiple clashes.
Star Cast of Ponniyin Selvan: Part One
Makers unveiled the first look posters of the main leads Vikram who is essaying the role of Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi in the titular role Ponniyin Selvan or Arulmozhivarman, Karthi is portraying the warrior prince Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan, Aishwarya Bachchan in the role of Nandini/Mandakini Devi, and Trisha as the Chola Princess Kundavai Pirattiyar.
Other actors Aishwarya lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Nizhalgal Ravi, Nassar, Jayachitra, Kishore is said to be playing the antagonist role as Ravi Dasan, Mohan Raman, R Parthiban, Ashwin Kakumanu in the pivotal roles.

Mani Ratnam along with the direction also wrote the screenplay with Elango Kumaravel, backed by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies. On the technical front, A. Sreekar Prasad is handling the editing, the camera is cranked by Ravi Varman and the multi accolades winner music mogul A.R. Rahman is on board for the music.
