Ratna Pathak’s Controversial Remark on Karwa Chauth
The actress who has given terrific performances in the movies and TV shows, got involved herself in a controversy, when during a recent interview she said that women in the twenty-first century continue to practice antiquated customs like Karwa Chauth.
Those who don’t know about it, Karwa Chauth is a one-day festival celebrated annually by married Hindu women in which they observe fast from sunrise to moonrise and pray for the longevity of their husbands. In many households husbands also fast for their wives and pray for her long-life.
Ratna Pathak termed the festival “appalling” and revealed that last year she was questioned for the first time if she observe the Karwa Chauth, to which she replied “Am I crazy?, Isn’t it disgusting that educated modern women still perform Karwa Chauth, where they pray for their husbands’ lives”.
The actress also said that India is becoming a conservative society and the first thing it does is clamp down on its women- just like they have done in a country like Saudi Arabia.
