Nobody had thought that Taapsee Pannu led film “Shabaash Mithu” will perform so badly at the box office. The biographical sports film in its three-day opening weekend managed to touch only 1 crore.
Following the dull performance at the box office, it earned Rs 20 L+ on Monday (Day 4) to take the total collections over Rs 1.7 Cr domestically. Now it seems it will meet the same fate as Kangana’s Dhaakad which had pulled from theatres in the first week itself and saw its lifetime wrapped up under Rs 3 Cr.
It is not the case with Taapsee starrer only, the other Friday release film HIT: The Frist Case is also performing below par at the ticket counters. While pre-pandemic times such content-driven films would easily get the start of Rs 2-3 Cr, post-pandemic it becomes the affair of the digital platform only.
And it will not be exaggerating to say if these films had directly opted for the OTT platform, they would have gotten a better response than the cinemas.

It was opened to a low note at the box office, the film minted only Rs 40 Lakhs on the first day, and showing growth over the weekend, it garnered Rs 1.5 Cr+ in the first three days. It is the third lowest opening weekend for Taapsee after Running Shaadi ( 60 L) and Dil Juunglee ( Rs 1 Cr).
On the first Monday, it saw the lowest collections coming in its entire 4-day run, Taapsee’s film accumulated around Rs 20 L on the 4th day taking the total collections to Rs 1.75 Cr.

Now, going by the trends, according to the trade analysts, considering the box office performance of the film, it will turn out to be the affair of one week, only. And finish its lifetime under Rs 3 Cr. As per the trade estimation, it collects in the range of Rs 15-16 L on Day 5 to take the total collections go past Rs 1.9 Cr.
Given the performance of all the three recent release films Shabaash Mithu, HIT: The First Case and Khuda Haafiz 2, they will soon join the list of disasters of Bollywood 2022.
