“Shamshera” will mark the arrival of the superstar Ranbir Kapoor on the big screens after over 4 yrs. The actor was last featured in the blockbuster Sanju which at the end of its theatrical run had emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Now, the superstar actor’s upcoming film Shamshera is all set to shake the box office this July. It will be gracing the silver screens on 22 July 2022 in three Indian languages Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Advance Bookings
The long-awaited film has been passed with a U/A certificate by the censor board on July 7th permitting to commence the advance bookings. The advance bookings of the film opened from July 17th (Sunday) onwards.
And a recent report of Pinkvilla, the film has sold a whopping 15,800 tickets at the national properties PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis, as of wed noon. At the same point of time Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 had gone north of 30,000, Jug Jugg Jeeyo was around 20,000 and Samrat Prithviraj stood around 9000. The bookings commenced on Sun but started gaining momentum from Mon.
Screen Counts and Budget
As per Bollywood Life, Shamshera is made with a budget of Rs 150 crores. It will be released on 5,550 screens worldwide, which consists of 4350 screen counts domestically and 1200 screens overseas. It is the biggest release post-pandemic for any Bollywood film.
Box Office Collection
The buzz for the Ranbir starrer is decent, it garnered eyeballs through the posters, teaser, and trailer of the film, also Bollywood is again struggling to see a blockbuster film after Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Jug Jugg Jeeyo gained some momentum but it will end its theatrical run with the above average or semi-hit verdict.
Now, amid all this, Shamshera has a chance to become Bollywood’s highest-grossing opening day film in 2022. It will have a one-week free run at the box office until Ek Villain arrives.
As of now, the film has a chance to see the opening of Rs 15-20 Cr in India. Going by the advance bookings, it will see the start of Rs 10-11 Cr but it caters to the mass audiences where walk-in audiences and spot bookings matter as many single theatres don’t even open advance, which will add over Rs 5 Cr more in its cash registers.
About The Film
Shamshera is directed by Karan Malhotra (Agneepath, Brothers fame), it will mark his third directorial venture, the dialogues are written by Piyush Mishra (Aarambh Hai Prachand fame), it is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner Yash Raj Films. Ranbir will be portraying the double role in the film for the first time ever. It stars Sanjay Dutt as the main antagonist and Vaani Kapoor is the lead actress opposite Ranbir.
The technical team includes Anay Goswamy as the cinematographer, Shivkumar V. Panicker is the editor, and the music is given by Mithoon. The film has a runtime of 158.43 minutes (2hrs 38min 43 sec).
