India’s leading streaming platform Zee5 has announced a partnership with BBC Studios India, which is the production and distribution arm of the British media conglomerated British Broadcasting Company (BBC.)
The first Hindi project that has been announced as part of this ongoing partnership is an original drama series titled The Broken News, which is the Hindi adaptation of the six-part television drama series titled Press, which first aired on BBC One on September 6, 2018 and created as well as written by Mike Bartlett.
The Broken News Star Cast
The series stars 90s’ one of the most successful actress Sonali Bendre as one of the lead actors. She is playing as the Journalist of Hindi news channel Awaaz Bharati. This series marks the OTT debut of the actress, who was last seen in a cameo in 2013 Bollywood film Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobaara.
She has also appeared in several reality shows and even made her acting debut on the small screen with Ajeeb Daastaan Hai Ye. Sonali took a brief break from acting after being diagnosed with Cancer in 2018.
The series also stars Paatal Lok fame Jaideep Ahlawat as Deepankar Sanayal, the journalist of another news channel Josh 24/7 News and Shriya Pilgaonkar as another journalist of Awaaz Bharati Radha Bhargava. Shriya is best known for her role as Advocate Kashaf Quaze in Amazon Prime’s Guilty Minds as Sweety Gupta in the streamer’s another superhit crime action drama Mirzapur.
In addition to the three lead cast members, the drama series will also star Indraneil Sengupta, Taaruk Raina, Aakash Khurana and Kiran Kumar in crucial roles. It is directed by National award winning Vinay Waikul, known for his work in Netflix’s crime thriller web-series Aranyak.
The Broken News OTT Release Date

Zee5, on Monday, May 15, 2022 unveiled the first look poster of the series featuring the lead actors trio with the caption “Har khabar ke do pehlu hote hain. Ek jo kadwa sach dikhaye aur dusra jo isse masaledaar banayein. Aap Kya chunenge? Sach ya sansani?”

Earlier, on May 11, 2022, one of the lead actors Sonali Bendre announced her role in the series by dropping a 39 second long video clip, which tells that the shows follows the story of two rival Mumbai-based new channels- Awaaz Bharati, an independent, ethical new channel and Josh 24/7 News, which offers sensationalist and invasive journalism.
