Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Netflix’s fantasy drama series The Witcher has been renewed for a fourth season, even before the debut of its third season, which is ready to have its premiere in summer 2023.
The series is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, known for writing fantasy novels and books. The series made its debut on December 20, 2019, and it was based on “The Last Wish” and “Sword of Destiny”, which are collections of short stories that precede the main The Witcher Saga.
After the success of the first season consisting of eight episodes, the second season, based on the novel Blood of Elves, was released in December 2021 and it was also comprised of eight episodes.
In September 2022, the series was renewed for a third season, which is set to premiere in mid 2023. Additionally, a prequel miniseries, titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, will be released in December 2022.
The Witcher Season 4 Star Cast
While the news of the renewal of The Witcher for a fourth season has brought a smile on fans’ faces, it comes along with a bit of sad news that actor Henry Cavill, who played the lead role as “Geralt of Rivia”, is not returning for the fourth season.

However, his character will be returning, with Liam Hemsworth replacing Cavill to play the character. Cavill announced the news via a post on his Instagram in which he mentioned that his journey while playing the character was filled with monsters and adventures and, sadly, he is not returning for the fourth season and instead Liam Hemsworth will be taking the mantle of White Wolf.

On the other hand, Hemsworth said he is “over the moon” as he gets the opportunity to play “Geralt of Rivia”. He also stated that he is overjoyed to be entering The Witcher World.The fourth season is expected to feature Anya Chalotra, Freya Allen, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, and others back in their respective roles from the previous seasons.
