Ajith Kumar’s recent release ‘Thunivu’ fared exceptionally well at the box office. Billed as a high-octane action adventure, the film was earlier (tentatively) titled AK 61, as it is the 61st film of the superstar’s career.
Thunivu was shot in different parts of Hyderabad and Chennai. It is one of the highly anticipated Tamil movies, which was released in cinemas on Jan 11 and opened on a good note at the box office despite the clash with Thalapathy Vijay‘s Varisu.
Thunivu Star Cast
Along with Ajith Kumar, who is playing the male lead in this much-hyped action entertainer, the film stars Malayalam actress Manju Warrier in the female lead role.
Thunivu marks the second Tamil film of the actress’s career after the Dhanush-led Asuran (2019). The film also has Veera, Samuthirakani, GM Sundar, John Kokken, and Ajay in crucial roles.
Thunivu OTT Release Date
The film is directed and written by H. Vinoth, it marks his fifth directorial venture. Thunivu is the third collaboration between director Vinoth and Ajith Kumar after Nerkonda Paarvai and Valimai.
The post-theatrical OTT rights of Thunivu are acquired by Netflix. Recently, the OTT platform confirmed the release date of the movie.
Thunivu will have its OTT release tonight at 12 AM, four weeks after the theatrical release. It will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages.
Thunivu was opened with flying colors at the box office. The film witnessed a huge start of 24.4 Cr nett and had an over 65 Cr nett extended weekend, domestically. It grossed 190.68 crores at the box office worldwide in 26 days. The film is now coming to the end of its theatrical run, it is expected to finish its run with 192-195 Cr WW.
Thunivu faced a clash with Varisu at the box office and despite this, both movies have earned huge especially in the home state, Tamil Nadu.
The film is directed by H. Vinoth whereas Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor is bankrolling under the banner of his Bayview Projects LLP in association with Zee Studios. Nirav Shah was roped in as cinematographer.
Interestingly, all of these cast members as well as banners have collaborated with Ajith in Nerkonda Paarvai and Valimai. The film has music by Ghibran, who also composed the music of Valimai.
All About Thunivu
On Wednesday, 21st September, the makers of the film revealed the title of the film as Thuniuv and along with it, also dropped its first look. The poster features Ajith in a new avatar, filled with swagger sitting on a chair and holding a gun in his hand.
Not only that, in the poster we see the superstar sporting gray hairs and beard, which gives a dashing look. The intriguing poster promises a never seen before visual treat to his fans. We can also see the tagline “No Guts No Glory” in the poster.
Thunivu was censored ‘UA’ certificate with an approved runtime of 2hr 26min or 146mins.
