The online database of information portal IMDb recently released its 10 most popular Indian movies of the year 2022 list. S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR continues to remain the favorite of cinemagoers even after 8months of its release. The film is no. 1 on the list of IMDb’s most popular movies with 8.0 ratings.
The interesting part is that there is only one Bollywood film named The Kashmir Files which managed to fetch a position in the list. All the other movies are Pan India release from the South. The Kashmir Files is at the 2nd spot with 8.3 ratings.
The monster KGF 2 is the 3rd Top rated film in the list with 8.4 ratings, followed by Vikram at 4th with 8.4 ratings out of 10. The all-time blockbuster Kantara, the small film which clocked over 400 Cr in its run at the box office, stands at no. 5 in the list.
As per IMDb India, this data is derived from IMDb movie rankings of all the movies released theatrically or digitally in the country between Jan 1 and Nov 7, 2022, and have an average IMDb user rating of 7 or higher with at least 25,000 votes. Check out the full list below:

The magnum opus was released on March 2022 and has grossed 1200 crores at the box office, worldwide. It is directed by S.S Rajamouli and stars N.T.R Jr and Ram Charan in the main lead roles. It went on to become the 3rd highest-grossing Indian film of all time after Baahubali 2 and KGF-2.
2- The Kashmir Files

The Kashmir Files is directed by Vivek Agnihotri and was released in March 2022. It emerged as a huge success at the box office. The film was praised widely, especially Anupam Kher’s performance as Pushkar Nath Pandit.

The Kannada period action film KGF-2 was released on April 2022 and took the biggest start at the box office, domestically. It is directed and written by Prashanth Neel, it serves as a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster film KGF: 1.
4- Vikram

OTT Platform: Disney+Hotstar
Vikram is a spiritual successor of Kamal Haasan’s 1986 film of the same name. It is directed by Lokes Kanagraj and serves as the 2nd installment in his cinematic universe. It was released in June 2022 and made over 426 crores in business in its run, worldwide.
5- Kantara
IMDb: 8.6/10

Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara received a lot of accolades from across the country. It is a Hombale Films release that also backed the KGF franchise. The film was made on a 16 crore budget and accumulated over 400 crores in its run.
6- Rocketry

R. Madhavan’s film went on to become a big hit, especially in the Hindi market. The film was opened on an average note in Hindi but due to glowing word of mouth, it accumulated 30 Cr in its run.
7- Major

Major is based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. It is a bilingual film shot in Tamil and Hindi and was appreciated by the critics and the audience. It had completed the break even on the weekend itself emerging a clean hit.
8- Sita Ramam

The period romantic Telugu film is directed by Hanu Ragahavapudi and stars Duqluer Salman, Mrunal Thakur and Rashmikka Mandana in the main lead roles. The film received accolades for its performance, cinematography and music from critics & audiences alike. It went on to become a huge hit at the box office.
9- Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (PS-1)

Mani Ratinam’s film Ponniyin Selvan: 1 was released in Sept 2022 and broke multiple records at the box office. It stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Karthi, Jayaram Ravi, and Vikram in the main lead roles.

IMDb: 8.9/10

The film was made on a budget of just 20 crores and accumulated over 105 crores in its run turning out to be a hugely profitable venture in terms of ROI. It is a Kannada movie and stars Rakshit Shetty in the main lead role.
