Sankranti and Pongal festivals are always special for the film industries. Audiences will get to watch a variety of Bollywood, Hollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood films on the silver screens this festive season.

There are biggies, pan-India movies to small films hitting the theatres. Here in this article, we provide the complete list of the 2023 Pongal/Sankranti notable releases in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu movies.

1- Kuttey

‘Kuttey’ is scheduled to release on Jan 13. It is directed by Luv Ranjan of Pyaar ka Punchnaama fame and stars Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Naseeruddin Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Radhika Madan, and Kumud Mishra in key roles.

It is billed as a black comedy thriller. Produced by Luv Ranjan’s Luv Films along with Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series film and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Vishal Bhardwaj Films.

2- Varisu

The much-awaited Tamil movie “Varisu” had a grand thetare released on January 11, 2023, clashing with Thunivu, let’s see who will win the battle. It is directed by Vamshi Paidipally and backed by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinemas.

It features Thalapthy Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in key roles. Arrives in cinemas on Jan 12, 2023. It is said to be made on an estimated budget of 200 Cr. The Telugu title of the movie is Vaarasudu. It is expected to be released in Hindi as well. The lyrical song Ranjithame grabbed a lot of eyeballs, trailer received mix reviews:

3- Veera Simha Reddy

God of Masses Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much-awaited Veera Simha Reddy is directed by Gopichand Malineni. It is produced by Naveen Yemeni and Y Ravi Shankar under the banner Mythri Movie Makers. It also has Shruti Haasan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Honey Rose as the main leads.

It is expected to be released on 12, 2023, coinciding with Pongal, however, the makers are yet to confirm. Earlier it was tentatively called NBK107, trailer is fully action-packed.

4- Waltair Veerayya

Telugu film Waltair Veerayya is ready to roar on the big screens on Jan 13, 2023. The film has Chiranjeevi, Shruti Haasan, Catherine Trese, and Ravi Teja as the main leads.

Directed by K.S. Ravindra and backed by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under the banner Mythri Movie Makers. The lyrical video of “Boss Party” featuring Urvashi Rautela went viral. Trailer looks promising.

5- Thunivu

Thanivu is a Tamil film starring Thala Ajith, it is directed by H Vinoth. The Tamil audience has witnessed the Varisu vs Thunivu Clash 2023, ahead of Pongal. The film is backed by Boney Kapoor under the banner Bayview Projects LLP along with Zee Studios and distributed by Red Giant Movies.Ajith’s last film Valimai rocked the box office, and the same is expected from Thunivu that graced the theatres on January 11 and expected to wreck havoc witnessing a huge box-office collection.

The Chilla Chilla lyrical song has been viewed over 1.6 crore times in just 4 days. It is coming to screens during Pongal.

6- Plane

“Plane” is an action thriller made on a budget of $50M. The film is shot in Puerto Rico and is acquired by Lionsgate in 2021. The plane follows the storyline of a pilot surviving the aftermath of an emergency landing in hostile territory.

Gerard Butler starrer Plane is slated to release on 13 Jan 2023 in the united states and India.

7- House Party

House Party is a comedy movie directed by Calmatic and backed by LeBron James and Maverick Carter under New Line Cinema and SpringHill Company. It has Jacob Latimore, Tosin Cole, DC Young Dly, and Karen Obilorn in the main leads.

Slated to release on Jan 13, whereas the India release is yet to be announced.

8- Mission Majnu

Shantanu Bagchi’s Mission Majnu has skipped the theatrical release and will now be premiered on the digital platform. It will be direct digital streaming from 20 January 2023 only on Netflix.

Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna feature as the main leads; it is produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Amar Butala, and Garima Mehta under RSVP Movies, Guilty By Association and Media LLP. The trailer is looking promising.
