Bollywood films are well-known for its drama, romance, comedy, thrills and most importantly its songs and dance. Indian cinema has its own distinctive traits and developed independently of Hollywood. Bollywood’s usage of song and dance in its films is one of the most prominent representations of its distinctive style.
Bollywood produced several hugely successful films that were based on or adapted from blockbusters in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. South Indian films typically hit the mark, and remakes are frequently seen as a safe option in Bollywood.

Kolamaavu Kokila (2018)
Jahnvi Kapoor’s upcoming film Good Luck Jerry which is a remake of Tamil film Kolamavu Kokila. The film is ready to hit the theatres from 29 July 2022. Director Sidharth Sengupta has wrapped up the shooting and Jahnvi got busy with promoting her upcoming movie.
HIT (2020)
The Hindi remake of the 2020s crime drama “HIT” (Homicide Intervention Team) is presently in production and stars Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra. The film is titled ‘HIT- The First Case” In the film Rao is portrayed as a policeman who battles PTSD. Filmmakers have not revealed the release date but it is contemplated to be released this year.
Kaithi (2019)
Director Dharmendra Sharma is busy filming Bholla, a remake of Tamil blockbuster Bholaa. Ajay Devgn is the lead character featured in the film. In the film, an ex-convict searches for his daughter after being released from prison. He is, however, stopped off by a drug raid.
The film is announced to be released on March 30, 2023.
Soorarai Pottru (2020)
Akshay Kumar has recently confirmed his upcoming film is Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film Soorarai Pottru. Suriya’s cameo is also confirmed. In the Tamil version of the film the lead character is portrayed as a young man from another village, who has ambitions to start his own airplane company. But in order to succeed in his mission, he must face a number of difficulties.
The filmmakers have not decided the title yet. The film is under production and Akshay’s fans need to wait for the release.
Vikram Vedha (2017)
The same-titled Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha with Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in pivotal roles. The remake’s creators, Pushkar-Gayathri, tell us that they “had not changed much” with the plot and it shall be released on September 30, 2022. Bollywood actor Madhavan was a part of the original motion picture.
Anniyan (2005)
With Ranveer Singh, director Shankar will adapt his 2005 successful movie “Anniyan,” which was dubbed into Hindi as “Aparichit.” Ranveer will take on the three characters that Vikram played. He will be seen as a lawyer who is suffering from multiple personality disorder. Movie is a psychological thriller. The movie is anticipated to release in the second quarter of this year.
Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020)
Allu Arjun has elevated his status after “Pushpa: The Rise,” especially in Hindi-speaking regions. The remake of his 2020 blockbuster family comedy “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo,” Shehzaada starring Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon, is currently in production. This year’s Rohit Dhawan-directed film is slated for release on November 4.
Helen (2019)
A remake of his own 2019 Malayalam film Helen, the upcoming survival thriller Mili is an Indian Hindi-language production directed by Mathukutty Xavier. Along with Manoj Pahwa and Sunny Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor plays lead role of a lady trapped in a freezer who is struggling for her life in the Boney Kapoor-produced movie.
Veeram (2014)
A forthcoming action comedy film titled ‘Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali‘ is being produced by Salman Khan Films and directed by Farhad Samji. Salman Khan, Pooja Hegde, Venkatesh, and Jagapathi Babu play major roles in the movie. This is a remake of the Tamil movie Veeram from 2014. Production commenced in Mumbai in May 2022.
The movie will be in theatres from 30 December, 2022.
Chatrapathi (2005)
Pen Studios is producing a high budget film in bollywood titled Chatrapathi which is a hindi remake of Telugu film with same title ‘Chatrapathi’ which was released in 2005.
It would be Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas’s first debut in bollywood. The film is said to hit the theatres in July 2022 though the story plot, other cast and trailer is not yet revealed. The sources also say that some scenes will be altered as per requirement of bollywood fans.
Driving Licence (2019)
Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi will star in the official Hindi remake of the 2019 Malayalam comedy-drama starring Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu, titled “Selfiee.” According to the sources, the movie will be directed by Raj Mehta and will be released in 2023.
Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (2016)
Varun Dhawan will play the lead part in the Hindi remake of Karthick Naren’s Tamil murder thriller Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, with Parineeti Chopra rumoured to play the female lead.
The movie will be directed by Naren and will be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and is tentatively titled “Sanki.” The movie is currently under production and could be released in theatres by the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.
Master (2020)
A Tamil action-drama Master from 2020 that set numerous records during the Pandemic outbreak. According to several media speculations, Salman Khan will play the title character in its Hindi remake. The original motion featured Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi. The remake will be going on floors next year.
Thadam (2019)
In the Hindi adaptation of the popular Tamil film “Thadam,” Mrunal Thakur will co-star with Aditya Roy Kapur. Mrunal will be seen as a cop in the Hindi remake of the film. Filmmakers remarked that the hindi version will be named ‘Gumraah.’ Release date is still under cover.
Naandhi (2021)
For the Hindi adaptation of the 2021 Telugu hit, Naandhi, Ajay Devgn and Dil Raju are working in collaboration. Last year, the actor tweeted about the remake and informed his fans by tweeting the news without sharing any further information.
Ratsasan (2018)
One of Akshay’s most eagerly anticipated movies, Mission Cinderella, is directed by Ranjit Tiwari and is a legal remake of the Tamil classic Ratsasan. According to recent sources, the creators are considering making it an OTT series with a limited number of episodes, and they may decide to stream it. Earlier the movie was declared to be released in April 2022 which has now been postponed but the next date is still a secret.
Drishyam 2 (2021)
Ajay Devgn and Tabu will once again team up for the follow-up of their suspense thriller “Drishyam.” Following the recent success of the regional movie Drishyam 2 with Mohanlal, Bollywood seized the chance to recreate the sequel. The Bollywood adaptation of Drishyam 2 is scheduled to debut this year. Drishyam 2’s release date was recently announced by Ajay Devgn on social media. He disclosed that Drishyam 2 will hit theatres on November 18, 2022.
Comali (2019)
Back in 2019, producer Boney Kapoor announced that he had bought the Tamil film Comali’s rights with the intentions of remaking it in Hindi and other languages. Boney also tweeted that the Hindi remake will star his son Arjun Karoor. As per the information, Arjun Kapoor resumed the shoots post pandemic and the movie will be available soon for the fans.
The Great Indian Kitchen (2021)
Actress Nimisha Sajayan played the lead in the critically praised Malayalam film “The Great Indian Kitchen,” which was directed by Jeo Baby.
The Great Indian Kitchen, a critically praised Malayalam film, will be remade in Hindi with actor Sanya Malhotra as lead, producer Harman Baweja, and director Arati Kadav. Sanya’s fan will have to wait for the release date as the makers have not made it public.
Aruvi (2017)
Director Eeshwar Nivas took the responsibility of remaking Malayalam film Aruvi on his shoulders. Dangal actress Fatima Sana was signed for the main role. Whereas, she walked out of the film due to shoot date clashes with her other project. New actress and other information has not been leaked as of now.
Joseph (2018)
A Hindi version of the Malayalam criminal thriller “Joseph,” “Soorya” is now in production and stars Bollywood actor Sunny Deol.
Padmakumar, who also oversaw the first movie, will helm this one. There are still many unknowns regarding the film. Film is rumoured to be released in September this year though filmmakers are quiet about it.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum (2020)
The Hindi version of the Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum would be helmed by director Jagan Shakti, who announced this in 2021. Actors John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor will play the key parts in the Hindi version, according to Mission Mangal’s director. Film is under production and expected to be released next year. According to the sources, John will be seen as a policeman.
