Kollywood megastar Thalapathy Vijay’s 2023 film, “Varisu” which was tentatively called #Thalapathy66, was released in cinemas during Pongal, now available on OTT but Hindi audiences have to wait for the film.
The film received positive feedback from the audience and won the box office clash against Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu. Both movies were released on the same date, Jan 11, and went on to become highest grossing Tamil movies of 2023.
Varisu is Directed and co-written by National award-winning director Vaashi Paidipally, popularly known for his directorial work in Telugu films- Munna, Brindavanam, Yevadu, Oopiri and Maharshi, the film is a bilingual and it is titled Vaarasudu in Telugu with Varisu being the title of Tamil version.

Pushpa fame Rashmika Mandanna is playing the female lead opposite Thalapathy Vijay in the film. Apart from this, the film also stars actor Prakash Raj, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Khushbu, Jayasudha, Sangeetha Krish, Samyuktha Shanmughanathan, Yogi Babu, Srikanth, Shaam, Shivaji Guruvayoor in supporting roles with superstar Mahesh Babu to have a cameo appearance in the film.

The shooting of the film began on 6 April 2022 and wrapped up on 15 April in Chennai while the second schedule was shot in Hyderabad and was completed on May 23, 2022.
After the theatrical release on 11 Jan 2023, the post-theatrical streaming rights of the movie are bagged by Amazon Prime Video In, available to stream on the OTT platform from 22 Feb 2023 (Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu).
Varisu Box Office Collection
‘Varisu’ was released in cinemas on 11 January 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The film faced a clash with the heist thriller Thunivu. It was the biggest clash of Jan 2023 in the country which was won by Varisu. The film earned Rs 281.8 Cr worldwide, of which Rs 195.8 Cr came in from India and Rs 86 Cr from the overseas market.

Thalapathy fans were waiting for the first single “Ranjithame” from the film, which was dropped on 5th Nov, 5:30 PM. The song went viral across the country and still trending on the Youtube music section. The much-awaited Trailer of the film was released on 4 Jan 2023 and crossed 2 crore views within a day which speaks volumes about the movie.
Varisu/Vaarasudu Posters
Along with the title of the film, the makers also unveiled its first look on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, just a day before the birthday of megastar Vijay, and gave an opportunity for fans to celebrate in advance.
The poster features Vijay in a dashing look, all suit-up in dark grey-colored suits and black shoes completing the entire look. Vijay can be sitting in a white-colored object that has the shape of a cuboid. The poster has the tagline “The Boss Returns”.
Varishu/Vaarasudu Makers & Budget
Varishu marks the first collaboration of Vijay with director Padipally and Dil Raju, who is helming the project under Sri Venkateswara Creations. The popular music composer is also collaborating for the first time with Thalapathy, he is set to compose all six songs of the album.
Along with Paidipally, the film is co-written by Hari, Ahishor Solomon, and Vivek with Tamil and Telugu dialogues written by Vivek and Srinivas Chakravarthy, respectively. Rambabu Kongarapi is co-directing the film.
The film has cinematography by Karthik Palani and editing by National award-winning editor K.L. Praveen. The Telugu version of ‘Vaarasudu’ is backed by PVR Cinemas. Varisu is made on an estimated budget of 200 crores.
