Days before its theatre-release, the upcoming film titled Raksha bandhan, starring Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role, is facing backlash on social media, but this time not because of any scene of the movie but its writer Kanika Dhillon’s old tweets.
After the call of Boycott Aamir Khan’s upcoming highly anticipated film Laal Singh Chaddha, social media influencers are now calling for the boycott of Akshay’s Raksha Bandhan. The issue started after several users dug up past tweets of Kanika Dhillon.
The film directed by Aanand L. Rai and produced by Zee Studios, Colours Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films, the film will tell the story of four sisters and their one and only brother, who promises his frail mother that he will not get married until he fulfils the responsibility of marrying his sisters into suitable homes first.

Who is Kanika Dhillon?
Kanika Dhillon is the popular Indian screenwriter as well as an author, who has written the screenplay for the Bollywood superhero film Ra.One, the Telugu -Tamil bilingual film Size Zero, Manmarziyan, Kedarnath, Haseen Dillruba and many other films.
She is the wife of Bollywood producer and film writer Himanshu Sharma, most well-known as the writer of the Tanu Weds Manu Series (2011 & 2015) and Raanjhanaa, Atrangi Re etc. He also served as the executive producer of Happy Bhag Jayegi and Nil Battey Sannata. The couple has a son Veer.

What is the controversy All About
A few days before the film is set to release, some twitter users started digging up her past tweets and started circulating them on social media. Kanika is a staunch critic of the ruling Indian Bhartiya Janata Party and PM Modi.
In her the past, he tweets many times criticising the government and now all her tweets, from her jibe on Gau Mutra, Jai Shree Ram Chants, the criticism of the government over COVID-19 and calling India as “lynchistan”, are circulating on social media which resulted in a complete boycott call for Raksha Bandhan film.
