The veteran Malayalam filmmaker KG George’s last rites are to be held today (September 26) at Ravipuram Crematorium with full state honors. Reportedly, the timing will be around 4:30 PM. On September 24, Sunday, renowned National Award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter K. G. George breathed his last at the age of 77 in Kakkanad.
Kulakkattil Geevarghese George, best known by his stage name K. G. George worked for around 26 years in the film industry and delivered several critically acclaimed hits in the Malayalam movie industry. KG George is best known for his role in the ‘New Cinema Movement,’ embarked on his directorial journey with Swapnadanam (1976) stars Rani Chandra, Dr Mohandas, Soman, Mallika Sukumaran, and others.
For the first directional venture Swapnadanam, George received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. In 1980, he was also awarded with Kerala Government’s Highest Honour, the J. C. Daniel Award.
