Who was Amar Singh Chamkila?
The legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila was born on July 21, 1960 in Dugri village near Ludhiana, Punjab. Chamkila was the youngest child of Kartar Kaur and Hari Singh. He had been fond of singing since he was a child, and he used to write songs while he worked in a cloth mill.
In no time, he became very popular in the villages of Punjab, especially when his song Takue Te Takua became a superhit. After that he got the stage name “Chamkila.” He wrote and sang multiple songs and one year he performed in 366 shows in 365 days.

Chamkila was married to Gurmail Kaur. The couple had two daughters named Amandeep Kaur and Kamaldeep Kaur. One of his daughters, Kamaldeep Kaur, is also a singer. She has released several songs and albums of her own and some of her songs contain lyrics written by her father.
The late Amar Singh Chamkila later got married to his singing partner, Amarjot Kaur, and later the couple had a son named Jaiman Chamkila, who is also a singer.

One day Chamkila and his wife were invited to perform in Mehsampur, Punjab, and when they were getting out of the car, they were brutally gunned down in broad daylight. The armed assassins of Amasr Singh Chamkila and his wife, Amarjot Kaur, are still unidentified, and the case of their murder is still unsolved.
